One day smoke free...

65.5 years old, found out this weekend I got too short of breath trying to shovel snow from my driveway. I was a
one pack a day smoker for 5-6 years and really after one day quiting I do feel a bit better. No tobacco after taste in my mouth, stomach feels more settled, and future seems less depressing knowing I am doing something positive for myself.

If you want to keep smoking, or think there is no danger in smoking because it's all nuclear radiation that gives you cancer...ok with me...do as you want.

I quit on saturday after 15 years of 10-15 smokes per day. The first few days sucked and I had one on monday.. and two on tuesday.. But none since then! Feeling like I'm making good progress :) Breathing easier, sleeping better and feeling less lethargic. I can't stop eating though!~! Exercise regime will follow soon XD

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
I quit back in February, it was very easy. I switched from cigs to roll up cigs and pouch of tobacco. With roll up cigs, the tobacco has less addictive chemicals in them and you can control how much tobacco goes into your cig. Gradually reduce the amount of tobacco that goes into them, and coming off them is so much easier.

Additionally, I advise you not to drink alcohol for 5 weeks otherwise you will lose your inhibitions and relapse.

I am totally over my addiction, and haven't looked back. In fact, the very smell of smoke makes me feel nauseous.

Now I'm in the process of giving up my lifelong habit of dairy consumption.

Smoked for 20 years, quit for 13 years, started again and it's been 3 years. Trying to quit again. It's been 2+ days. 1st day was a real bear. Got the patch but as you k ow it's not the same. I'm on vaca right now which makes it easier I guess. At least I'm not at my dreadful job. Couldn't do it there. I pray for success for all those trying to quit...it is the hardest thing. Cigs killed my dad but I still did it=insanity. Please pray for me as well. Thanks. Oh, i just turned 50 not too long ago.

I truly find immense gratification that this humble thread I started years ago is still having a positive effect on so many. I, as you know, am not on GLP in the website roll as senior moderator like I was, How-ever, I check in on this thread every now and then. Keep up the winning against the addiction of nicotine, it is your life we are talking about here, so if you fall, get up again and fight. I am proud to say, I beat it, so you can too. Love to all. I quit smoking cold turkey on Feb 1st 1990.
Was smoking 45 Winnies Red a day @ $3 pkt at that time.

Gave up drinking the same night and haven't had a drop since.

Where have my quitters gone? Still quit or fail?
 Quoting: Desert Fox

Iím back and Iím winning. Quit with my wife Thanksgiving night and am 100% nicotine free for coming on 4 days. Turned out it was a great time to quit. Long weekend at home, plenty of leftover food to lessen daily responsibilities. We pretty much puttered around, bitched at each other and the kids, took naps, drank water and cranberry juice, bitched and moaned some more and now here we are. I had both nicorette gum and an e-cig at home; neither of us has touched either one. We donít want to prolong our withdrawal and thatís exactly what these aids do. We want every last fucking molecule of nicotine metabolized out of our systems. Taking in ANY sort of nicotine at this point puts us straight back to square one; I want no fucking part of going through this past weekend againÖ.EVER. I know the fight will be on-going for a long while but I also know the worse of the pain and misery is over. Itís nice to be over the early stages of life sucking because you cannot smoke and into the stages of identifying the positive aspects of being free.

This really helped me a lot: [link to whyquit.com]
Nice thing about ntap is that each chapter is no more than 2 pages so I could grab my ipad and knock out a couple chapters for support/motivation. An above poster mentioned Alan Carr. I read his easyway book on drinking; I can imagine his smoking book is just as good.

I also downloaded the no smoking ipad app. Nice to see a running tally of how many smokes you have NOT had and how much money you HAVE saved.

Good luck to all in the midst of the fight and to all gearing up to enter the ring. One round at a timeÖ.it may not seem so but it is a winnable battle!! I (25 year smoker) am proof as are many others here.
I will be back with updates and to offer support for others.

Still smoking and occasionally drink and doing fine. I eat healthy and exercise too. Let the chips fall where they may.

Haven't you all realized that they want to take all of our fun away?

To each their own and if one want/needs to quit them that's totally fine and I wish you all the best. We all get sick of things when they no longer serve us and it's a good thing to let them go. Wish you all the best.
