i blew it. i smoked. today. a lot.

Because??????????? Well don't give up, try again friend. You can whip it.

i really have no excuse. i have lots of reasons. but no excuse.
 Quoting: Salt

Just don't give up. I had reasons to start back before too, but none were good enough to take years off my life for. I know I could not have made it without Chantix, you just can't believe how it suppresses the desire to smoke, even from the first day. Yes we can!!! DF

Morning - Well day one here (had my last cigarette last night) and I'm fiending like a skel climbing down a fire escape with a toaster under my arm. Staying away from coffee and drinking a lot of water. Restless and irritable. But day one. Hope this finds all well. Best - Mac

I quit 3.5 weeks ago, although I did have half a cigarette Saturday evening after half a bottle of Brandy.

Thinking of cigarettes on a couple of times a day now and then only fleetingly. I'd say I'm out of the woods.

Anon, Thanks for the encouragement. Crawling out of my skin, but believe urge will pass whether I smoke or not. Some strong stuff, that's for sure. Congrats on your 2.5 days, it's nice to have someone in the same count ballpark as me. Glad you said it gets better (2.5 days vs. 12 hours).

All good things to you and thanks for the kindness and good thoughts. Best.

Yep I quit! 25 years of a pack a day or more, one day said I'm tired of them haven't looked back after 71 days. Think I am done no matter what happens I will not smoke again. And the health benefits are awesome. I am a very physical person and my stamina has increased food taste better, my sense of smell has increased and the money I'm saving is cool too! By all means one should look at quitting like the day before yesterday. You will not regret being smoke free. I could never have pictured myself as a non smoker, I wouldn't be cool, but now, I was a fool for having tried them in the first place. You can live without them.

Re: I QUIT SMOKING , YOU CAN TOO. I QUIT SEPT 27, 2012, SUPPORT EACH OTHER HERE
Morning - Morning of Day Two, thanks for asking DesFox. A little dicey this morning (crazy dreams last night), but as I write I've been up two hours and haven't smoked. I was concerned about the morning ritual of smoke and coffee, but thus far I'm doing ok. When hit (really slammed) with an urge, I tell myself if I pick-up a smoke I'll just have to go through the shit again and all those hours clean would have been wasted. So ok for today thus far.

I read another quit smoking post here on glp and the OP was an Aussie who recommended cranberry juice to compensate for the blood sugar drops affiliated with knocking down the nicotine. He made a lot of sense so in addition to all the other fruits/vegs I'm going to juice today I plan on getting some cranberry juice as well. Whatever it takes, you know.

I've been met with such grace here on this thread and I'm so grateful you started it DesFox. Given the support and good fellowship I received, I feel compelled to clarify something and I don't know why but it makes me feel ashamed. I don't believe I said I was going to quit cold turkey, but just for my piece of mind I want to say I'm wearing a 21mg patch. I don't know why that's important for me to say, but it is. I just don't want to present myself in any other way but with the truth (and I think the support I've been given here has earned absolute truth). That said, wearing the patch makes me feel a little weak or a cheater. When all is said and done I'm not the tough/hard man I like to think I am but I'm certainly smart enough to know that this nicotine addiction is much much stronger than me. Still, wearing the patch makes me feel like I'm cutting a corner instead of going through it straight-on. Of course, this thinking could just be a set-up to have me take the patch off - again, for me, this addiction is cunning and baffling - and I guarantee I'd be smoking like a lunatic within hours. So I'll keep the patch on for today and ignore my, more than likely, irrational thoughts on this. Did I mention I feel like an absolute nutter this more?

So that's it (I'm rambling like a crazy man and more than a bit mental. Day two. Elvis is dead and I'm not feeling too good myself. But I'm smoke free.
As always, thanks for being there and giving me a place to post with kindred souls. Best - Mac

I honestly think all those aids only hinder. I have tried everything and all it did was prolong the process of quitting. I finally kicked it by going cold turkey on 8/8/2012. Was way easier then when I tried the patch and chantix.

Interesting

Propylene glycol is the most commonly used preservative for tobacco, so you are smoking it when you smoke cigarettes anyway.

Glycerol is used in everything from cough syrup to medicines.

So what you are saying is that you can smoke propylene glycol and you feel fine, but vaporizing and consuming it at a lower temperature makes you have an allergic reaction ?

I'll have to ask my housemate about this, he's a biochemist who currently works designing e-liquids for e-smokes here in NC.

Very strange.

all i know is that the smoke from smoke machines, and the liquid you buy to put in them, makes me swell up - lips, eyelids, etc. when i am in a nightclub that has the older type smoke machines, the smoke is barely breathable for me. have to leave the room. we rented a smoke machine for a halloween party we had one year. you had to pour this clear liquid into it and i got some on my hands, then on my face, and it made my lips and eyes swell up like a mofo.

Glycerol is a normal chemical precursor for synthesis of triacylglycerols and of phospholipids in the liver and adipose tissue.

I'm curious why you'd have a reaction to it when it's part of normal body chemistry.

im allergic to all kinds of shit. wheat, gluten, mold, latex...

i remember back in the old days, when i worked in an old print shop, we used to use liquid glycerine on our fingers when handling paper to help us sort thru sheets. i broke out in big welts all over my face.
