Quit smoking 5 years ago. How I did it, I used the patch but I didn't enjoy the patch, I wore it on my arm and it made my arm sore. So after 2 weeks of using the patch I started to only use the patch every other day. By the end of the 3rd week I was so sick of the patch I just stopped wearing it, and haven't had a cigarette since.

One thing you need to understand about quitting 1 Physical addiction to Nicoteine goes away after 3 days, So after the 3 day marker it is all MENTAL and in your head. So 3 DAYS is the Goal marker after that it is all down hill, because you know will know you don't NEED it anymore, you will just want it, which you can overcome.

So you have to drill it into your head how much you hate smoking and won't do it anymore, tell yourself how much money you save, tell yourself how nice it is not to stink all the time. Tell yourself how much less money you will have to spend because of doctors or loss work from throat infections or getting colds. Tell yourself whatever you need to convince yourself that you do NOT need a cig, life IS so much better without them.

The cravings will still return but they will go away in less then 5 minutes and will come less and less frequently. At first I'd get a craving bout once a week, then once a month, then once every couple months, eventually they will just go away. When these happen just go take a walk or something let the craving pass, it isn't that big of a deal. Realize how much simpler your life will be without being a slave to an addiction.

Lastly I reccomend anyone thinking about quitting watch the movie The Insider. So you understand exactly what the tobacco companies have done to keep you addicted at the cost of your health.
