Boy do I feel dumb... never heard of Mauritania.
 Quoting: Angelic_Warrior

It is in Africa, just another shit hole country there I wouldn't feel stupid. Study a map if it makes you feel better.

Just more religious people killing other religious people. Hard for me to give a shit.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24757614

Problem is that after they are done, they'll want to make you "religious," and if you don't agree, well you might just find that you have no choice.
Within the surreal depths of "reality" lies the truth.

Maybe if Obama blows it it up, I'll spin the globe next to my fireplace and see if it existed in 1982 when my globe was made....in America.

I guess I need to spell it out.

A country may be lost that we were in negotiations with & that we had air fields in.

It is a sex slave capital.

It makes 7 billion a year.

It was a forward operation base for many of “our” military’s. This includes fully functional state of the art air fields.

So who will control it in the weeks to come because it is not lost yet, but this looks dire.

This will not just be a breeding ground this will be an export station for the people who will be breed for a purpose.

Fabulous exaggerated headline as usual! .........after a shoot out in the capital. What shoot out? There wasn't a shoot out just some bozo shot the president of Mauritania does not amount to a shoot out.

People seem to love to sensationalise but then look totally stupid after the facts come out. This post being the perfect example.

He had agreed that his country would be major launching point for Western (US & France) operations against Islamist controlled Northern Mali..

US State Department & French Officials were coming to Mauritania this week to finalize the details ($$ & €€)

He received a warning 3 days ago from French intelligence that he was at risk - he had recently cancelled international trips...

This is hilarious how stupid your post is...

"state of the art air fields" - holy shit you know nothing about what it's really like here.

The US does not have airfields here, but they did, in 2008, use the airport for running drones. France has vastly more military stationed (covertly) in this country.

"sex slaves"? I think you mean, slave. This country has some odd ancient rules and customs around slavery. It's not like traditional slavery where people are bought and sold by the masses to do work.

The president is ok. And tomorrow I'm sure he'll be here to meet with the Under Secretary from the US.

And, btw, because you turds always jump on me about this - I am a US citizen...

Twitter - (link they are discussing is now dead)

“@pettybooshwah: @weddady @lissnup Had either of you seen this report from 3 days ago?

“@weddady: @pettybooshwah @lissnup yes we've seen it. it was a warning sent by a foreign power which led to Aziz canceling his trips.”

“@pettybooshwah: @weddady And do you have any indication as to what the Aziz administration’s outlook was toward using Mauritania as a launch point vs Mali?”

“@weddady: @pettybooshwah plenty of those. he was seriously mulling it and trying to extricate maximum leverage: $$”

Sorry report was three days ago - I don't know if warning was 3 days ago...

Also slightly OT from Liss Nup's Facebook page (posted 22 hours ago)

Times are ripe for a false flag attack in Mauritania:

- Highest-ranking US diplomatic visit to Mauritania in over 5 years next week

- Fake English news reports about heightened security in Nouakchott in response to rumoured Al Qaeda attack and "concerned citizens"

- Additional reports positioning Sahel as the "new AQ HQ"

- Another 45 days in which to pursue a political discourse = more resistance from UN Security Council on foreign military intervention in Mali than expected (and failure to meet requirements of presenting a detailed plan as stipulated in last UN meeting)

- Death of US Ambassador in Libya used to explain apparent US interest in Mali/Sahel

- Both the US Embassy in Benghazi and key diplomatic locations in Nouakchott use private British security services

- Increased influx of foreigners to Mauritania in recent months as aid workers, attaches, photographers or journalists

About Weddady -

I am a native of Mauritania, and grew up in Libya and Syria, traveling extensively through the Middle East, before coming to the US as a refugee in 2000. A few days after the September 11 attacks, I was falsely detained by the FBI because of my ethnic appearance.

I have been a long-time activist in the struggle to end slavery in my homeland, I have also organized conferences for young activists across the Middle East; published in the International Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, and Baltimore Sun; appeared on Fox’s Hannity & Colmes, BBC World Service, Al Jazeera, and Radio Liberty; and testified to Congress’ Human Rights Caucus. Fluent in five languages, I have lectured at the US Institute of Peace, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and diverse interfaith settings

Currently, I am the Outreach Director with American Islamic Congress (AIC) and  working on the Hands Across the Middle East Support Alliance initiative (HAMSA) and also am chair of AIC’s New England Council.

Where's your CV A/C??

When I said “our” military’s I never said the U.S.
I meant “our” allies and yes France in particular.

When I said Sex slaves I was talking women forced in to prearranged marriages for goods at very very young ages, it is an exportable commodity.

And “state of the art airfield” has to do with how the airfield was built and what type of traffic it can handle, nothing to do with equipment on or around the field, it’s about the tarmac alone.

And I very much hope the president is ok as reported.

Be safe AC

A/C

Why the hard feelings? I was just trying to determine your connection to Mauritania.

Presuming that you were not a troll - here were my guesses -

My guess from your first two posts was that you were associated w/ USG or a US Citizen who had some sort of risk management position w/ a business interest in Mauritania (mining was my guess)... You had a good grasp of the open source information re: USG actions in Mauritania (no drones since 2008 matches recent information disclosed in WaPo - (link above)...and you strongly suggested that you were in Mauritania...

Your last post told me you weren't in the private sector (there goes the risk mgt guess) ...But it doesn't mean you aren't associated w/ USG - Contractors don't "work for any government"

Asking (again) for your CV - was fishing to see if you are an academic....

Another guess, your comments about slavery suggested that you might be an ex-pat who is now US citizen....

But then there is this -
1) Why didn't you ask about the Mali car accident? Mali & Mauritania are not Belgium & the Netherlands (considerable distance) - so would an ex-pat or academic or extreme vacation taker?? w/ no association to USG know about it? (Maybe - Mauritania isn't really my Bailiwick)
2) Why did you get so offended by the accountant/NGO reference....How did you know what I was implying?

I apologize if I offended you....

President Aziz is still not dead...

He was shot four or five times in arm, chest & leg. He's still in Paris...

Mauritanian experts on twitter have come to the conclusion that this was probably an "inside job" - carried out by elements of Mauritanian military who did not want the country to join in the upcoming invasion of North Mali...

The international media is blaming Islamists...

Re: BREAKING: ASSASINATION- President of Mauritania injured after a shootout in the capital - reports
AQIM just threated to kill French hostages if the invasion of Mali is not called off.

UN called for an invasion plan to be drafted on Friday.

Snip; The Mujahideen of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in Mali have warned to "open the doors of hell" for French citizens if France kept pushing for armed invasion to retake the north of Mali. "If French president continues to throw oil on the fire, we will send him the pictures of dead French hostages in the coming days," said Oumar Ould Hamaha, a spokesman for the armed group MUJWA, in apparent reference to the six French nationals still held by armed groups after being taken prisoner in the region. "He will not be able to count the bodies of French expatriates across West Africa and elsewhere," Hamaha said by telephone.

[link to www.kavkaz.org.uk]

Snip; Aziz was elected president in 2009. Still, the CIA describes the country's leadership as a "military junta."

Security in Mauritania has been ratcheted up in recent weeks amid concerns about "armed terrorist groups" in nearby northern Mali, according to Magharebia, a website sponsored by the U.S. Africa Command -- a part of the U.S. military focused on the continent.

The measures include a bolstered security presence on main streets, near embassies and by government buildings in Nouakchott, as well as stepped-up patrols, Magharebia said.

No official reason has been given for the enhanced security, according to the report. But the publication, quoting terrorism experts and local news reports, said it may be related to threats posed by al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

In May, the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning for Mauritania because of AQIM activities.

"As a result of perceived Western involvement in counterterrorism efforts, AQIM has declared its intention to attack Western targets," the warning said.
