Sir France's Beercan User ID: 1326626 Austria 10/14/2012 02:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anyone remember a TV program set in Sheffield about a nuclear bomb? I have been looking for it for years. Sticks in my mind because I live here and must of been about 12 years ago, maybe a bit more. Basically most people died but a group of people survived in a train tunnel. They were random people on the train and in the middle of the tunnel they all got put to sleep and woke up months later to a post apocalyptic Sheffield. Better than it sounds. I can also recommend watching "Testament". The full movie can be seen here: [link to www.youtube.com] Quoting: Vinyard Your link is bad.... "The Tree of Liberty is Thirsty and needs Watering" -Me |
kingbirdfivezero User ID: 25216301 United States 10/14/2012 03:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yep, I remember seeing this when it first came out. Ranks right up there with other nuclear doom flicks like Fail Safe, On The Beach, By Dawn's Early Light and The Day After. Threads, however, has an even better doom factor because of the way it starts out with the conflict with Iran. Last Edited by kingbirdfivezero on 10/14/2012 03:50 PM |

Quoting: kingbirdfivezero :grizzy:P I think it's the most depressing movie I've ever seen. And that's because I think it accurately portrays what 'life' will be like afterwards. Yup, Threads and The Road are both at the top of the list of depressing films for me. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 19198791 United Kingdom 10/14/2012 05:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why do we always talk like nuke war is inevitable, as if it's totally out of our control like killer solar flares or something? WE are in control of this. I mean all of us humans. We don't have to nuke each other. We are not powerless. We don't have to keep listening or watching nuke mega-doom movies and getting ourselves all freaked out. ...that is, unless it's a weird form of entertainment or addiction to doom. In which case, excuse me, but do us all a favour and get a more positive life. Nuke-doom is not going to happen. I'll butt out now. |

It electrifies the ionosphere so that anything electronic will be disabled. The Soviets have that too. Operation "Nordic" is more specific to the plans in place (which will be executed in February, 2014 for depopulation). |

Ladydoom User ID: 24197134 United Kingdom 10/15/2012 03:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What made it worse is that is where I live, seems very close to home and scary. I would like to think I don't have a shocking accent like they do though. Also thanks to the people who found me The last train. Watched the first one already and no wonder I couldnt find it, its not nuclear war its a giant meteor. We accept the reality of the world with which we are presented. |
Resdes (OP) User ID: 12719340 United Kingdom 10/15/2012 05:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hopefully, the war tards who go on and on and on and on about nuking these people, that people and so forth will have had a reality check with that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18520685 Totally spot on with your comment, I think sometimes people dont realise that its not just a case of pressing a button, and watching a lovely firework show, that a nuclear attack is end game for all of us, its not the actual action but its the time aftwards that really brings it home, soil, air, water, no food, christ not even the means to burn or bury the dead. Glad the film made people think, and for those who say nuke this and nuke that country, you really should think what it actually means, I hope to god that us the human race never get to that stage, what ever the reason for falling out with each other ,through race, world rescources, or reglion, nothing can be worse than living in a post nuclear age.. I told the Inland Revenue I didnt owe them a penny because I lived near the seaside |

Too Dark, there were rumours this movie was actually shown to the Russians (USSR) back in the 80's, and even they were horrified by what they saw. Hopefully made them think too. Anonymous Coward User ID: 25601361 United Kingdom 10/15/2012 05:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One of those ultra depressing films of what might be... but then again, there where similar fears and even films in the prelude to WW2 in which opposing armies dropped WMDs on each other sending us back into the stone age, but fortunatly it never happened that way.. if you can call what did happen fortunate. However, as much as I think this won't happen this way, there is always that chance, which is depressing and I really hope if it does one explodes above my head so I never see what it is like to survive such a conflict. |

Quoting: Hardwired Very moving film. Glad I was of help for you to find it, its one of many films about nuclear and post nuclear war films, that have seemed to disappear, any kind of modern nuclear movies make me laugh, they make it all glamour, I did hear from some people who know this movie more than me, this was actually shown to the higher elements of the USSR government, back in 86, and from witness they ended leaving the movie in tears, hey we are all human.... I think parts are very realistic and poignant. I'd also recommend watching both the original BBC Survivors series as well as the newer version. [link to en.wikipedia.org] [link to en.wikipedia.org] Both of these deal with a plague. All of these kinds of dramas help people to think about prepping and learning life skills to cope in the aftermath. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8640456 of course its a doom movie, its about a Nuclear war, however it real gets to the heart of what we the human race can do against each other, i.e its not about just pressing a launch button, its about how we can really send us the human race back to the stone age, and for what? a country, a idea? for oil? or just we dont like you...The movie is bascially telling you, no one wins in a nuclear war, we as humans all lose! Personally if it happened I would want to go in the flash, and not live out a total non exists in a living nightmare I told the Inland Revenue I didnt owe them a penny because I lived near the seaside |
