You are trying to project your humanity to come up with an answer. The problem lies outside of humanity and to be objective and abstract. A species could evolve to be a conquering race with its ruler like a queen, similar to the insect world. The only benign race on the plant seems to be plant life, even there the strong will survive over the weak.

This does not mean that there aren't any other planets and races like us. But like us, they lack the capability of meaningful space travel. A society that is inharmonious with the universe, can not conquer the universe and will fail to make the great reach to other inhabited planets.

The fact is that inter-galactic spaceships are not made available to species and races who would go to other planets and enslave or destroy other people. It just is not allowed. A catastrophe would take place before (or around the time) they could invent such spaceships, such as in Atlantis, preventing them from exporting their violence to outer worlds.
