Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22353411 Been there, experienced that - the pain will drive you to the surgical solution, which will indeed make it all better. Except for healing the small arthro incisions, you will come out of surgery essentially pain-free and ready to run a marathon. Seriously. I don't know about the torn Meniscus. I'm thinking more Bakers cyst. I want to avoid surgery totally. The Baker's cyst is the clearest indicator of a torn meniscus - and the source of all the pain. I was able to walk up a double flight of stairs to my apt the same day as the surgery when I went home - without the pain! There is no alternate remedy. The success of the surgery depends on how badly the meniscus is torn. Believe me, the pain will drive you to an MRI and surgery. Just get a good surgeon. As for scar tissue, if you stretch and massage the area going forward, once healed, no problem. |
INK3 (OP) User ID: 25237515 United States 10/23/2012 10:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds a bit serious. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5859380 Check with the professionals. But I use Epsom salt soaks and/or hot wash cloth wrap. get some epsom salt $5.00 bucks at any rite-aid, cvs or what ever. follow the directions, I add more but you should check with a doctor first. good luck. Also other suggestions in the thread. get a crutch to take weight off it. get a splint or support for the joint itself. try the cheapest thing first then work your way through the list, keep a journal of what works. other herbal remedies. Will try the Epsom salts. OP i must disclaim, check with your doctor. (even though i hate most doctors with thier pills and unneeded surgeries) yeah, you can just get hot water in a bowl with a wash cloth, put the epsom salt in, and then take hot salt wash cloth and apply directly to the knee. repeat as needed. or just do a bath with the salts in the bath water. Flax oil may be helpful too. My experience is with an Multiple Sclerosis Patient and My own body. The combination of the Flax oil (usually eaten with potatoe, or vegetable stir fry or other recipe available all over internet) has improved the MS patients overall quality of life 30% or more. WOW that is pretty good for a few bucks worth of salt and oil every month. Good luck. My first inclination from you Original post is that this is a pretty serious problem. You should be very careful and try eveything slowly and pay very close attention to what is working. Also, you must improve your diet. if it is not good. cut out meats or at least NO red meat for a month. Eat whole Apple, Fruits, Steamed Potatoe or Rice or Soy Bean or other whole Food. Nothing from a can or a box for 3 months. Trust your self only. If what I say doesn't jive with you INSIDE, then forget it and move on to next choice. Good luck. you can heal yourself. Remember? Thanks! I do trust myself (more than doctors). Will try the flax oil. I recently bought some flax seed and will try that too. My diet is pretty pure and I take supplements. Don't want to go to dr. any alternative remedies or ideas are greatly appreciated! Quoting: INK3 I have a brace for every joint in my body...may go a couple of years without using a single one but they work great for when I need them... This. Get a good knee brace. I don't mean a 10 dollar one from Walmart. Go to a medical supply place and have them fit you for one. I had to have that done when I slipped on ice and dislocated my knee cap last winter. You wouldn't think so.. but the high tech brace can make a world of difference. It won't heal the knee so much as help with the pain though. Some injuries really are best treated by going in and having it fixed. If you've torn something, continuing to use it as normal can cause more damage. Not all docs are going to load you up on meds and cut open your knee. They will probably do an MRI then from there determine if you need surgery or can get away with physical therapy.
