I don't recall saying "don't be prepared". I live VERY close to the ocean, so I'm always prepared. There is, however a difference between being prepared and being hysterical.

Once again, I didn't say don't prepare, I said don't buy into the hysteria. I live within blocks of the Atlantic Ocean, I know the power of these storms, I've been through several of them.

Most of the people who are whipping this frenzy up are hate filled "christians" frothing with delight that maybe, just maybe their long held wish that those lousy jews, blacks, latinos, immigrants in NYC they despise be wiped out might come true. Sick motherfuckers, the lot of 'em.

I live in the Northeast and let me tell you that we get storms like this in the winter and we oddly enough call em Noreasters...just some wind and rain...nothing new rain and wind has happened before people...move along. If it was a Cat 3 or more Hurricane approaching then I'd be wetting my pants, some wind and rain ain't squat.

I'm with OP on this one. No one is saying not to be prepared. Living in NJ myself, I have seen some bat shit hysterics go on before storms hit. Try going into a supermarket around here two days before a Noreaster or a blizzard hits . People take it way too far. Yes, yes, I get it, the power may be out for a week afterward but some people act like they aren't going to see the light of day for a year. The hysterical behavior plus the 8 gallons of milk, 14 loaves of bread, 400 batteries in each shopping cart is laughable. It's a Noreaster NOT a nuclear holocaust.

If you are on a train track and the train is coming, it isn't there to distract you from some significient event. It is the significent event.

I'm taking up my time as you put it, in order to get some of the hysteria out of storm forecasting. FFS! There have always been coastal storms. Yeah, they're damned scary, I know, I've lived through a bunch of them, but I have never seen advance hype like the hype for this one. As for name calling, if the shoe fits, etc.,.

I'm guessing you don't live anywhere near the East Coast.

I've told relatives in the area to seriously prep, make sure they've got lots of food and fuel for the generator. Yes it could completely miss. But it could also have the power out for weeks. Snow on trees with leaves, high winds, perfect power outage combo. Not just on the coast but potentially well inland.

I live in PA and we lost power for 8 days last Oct. and it was not pleasant. Yeah, I am a little panicked and do NOT want a repeat!

Why are hurricanes and cyclones always given non threatening names, like Wilma and George?

Surely, 'hurricane run like fuck' or 'cyclone bastard' would be more appropriate?

lol, remember we can go to jail for 6 years for failing to predict doom. And we can are terrorists if we prep for doom. Make it easier for yourselves. Report to local FEMA camps and turn yourself in so you have all bases covered.
