If you are in the effected area, you cant run to the store & get a supplies.

Last Ice storm, companies were delivering to people in 24 hours.

You may be able to order stuff online that UPS will bring to your door in 24 hours that will not be in the local store for a week.

I always run mine in my attached garage with the door up. You really think it's that dangerous?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20033198

CO sinks to ground level & looks for a place to go. A garage that seems windy may be dumping CO into the house. CO is colorless, odorless and tasteless. You may never know if it was venting properly.

New strategy.

Anyone who wants Brief to put his generator on high in the kitchen and choke on the CO exhaust, add a post telling me why.

Brief has solar.
And my Genny is chained up. Don't want Her jumping in strangers car just cause he's wagging a T- bone.

Self bump - I don't plan on babysitting this, but would like it on the front page for our fellow GLPers without power tonight.
 Quoting: Lemon

If they don't have power, chances are pretty good that they won't be reading your warning.

My power is down, but cell phone is working. Generator is outside.

Re: Generator Use - Please don't Die tonight.
Don't leave it on 24x7. 4 hours on & 4 hours off will keep the fridge cold & save gas.

Check the oil frequently.

It stays OUTSIDE!! Not in the garage. NOT in the Bathroom with the window open. Carbon Monoxide may kill more than Sandy Did.

If you are worried about generator theft, chain it up. Guard It. Turn it off for 4 hours to sleep.

A generator, in an attached Garage will kill you in your sleep.
 Quoting: Lemon

thanks for the reminder. while i don't need a generator and have never used one yet, i've thought about the potential need. and while i know it MUST be outside, i have ana attached garage, so if i found i needed one, it might be easy to forget and insted pop it in the garage. Like Lemon wrote - outside only.

I took my cell phone across the street to my neighbor today. (I lost my car charger.) He has a generator going. I do not. We live in NJ. Lost power yesterday.

Yes, it has to be protected from rain and whatnot. Mine is outside in the garage with the door wide open. Garage not attached to my house, though.
