NY FEMA CAMPS.... RESIDENTS THREATENED TO NOT TALK TO MEDIA.... MEDIA NOT ALLOWED INSIDE GATES..... DEATHS, LOOTING & CHAOS IN NEW YORK...

That post and website is bullshit. "Asbury Park" is in New Jersey also not in NY. New york is up and running. People on Long Island are pissed because LIPA energy is fucking them big time with their electricity.

Gas is only at 20% because of flooded pump computers so alternate days are being used to buy gas. Other than that shits relatively normal.

That website does look fucking scary though, I could see how a person in the hinterlands would be scared shitless and buy whatever they are selling.

He is 100% right on this. Things are relatively normal around here. I am in CT. LI is the only one still without power and I think they brought in some other people to help. Gas is being rationed but they said that should clear up in a few days. Folks are driving from NY to CT to get gas and waiting in line for a few hours. It sucks but its nothing as bad as some are making it sound.

Traffic in NYC was impassible for a while, gridlocked.

What if you don't happen to be able to pay for the resort, and your whole life is tied up in that house that is now soaked and you had the crazy idea of protecting it from the looters you expected would come?

Services might be restored in 8 months and your job is gone. Could YOU afford the resort that long? No but your mom's still-dry basement will protect you as it always has.

Living within your means IS having enough for the unexpected.
If necessary, you work two or even three jobs. Or live with family. Take in roommates. If thats not feasible, you sit in a FEMA camp and take minimum grade handouts like any other charity recipient.

Sigh.

FEMA is a PLANNING agency. They make the plans and recommendations to the politicians and city governments. It is the FIRST RESPONDERS who are the people who go in, you know, first to help. They can only help carry out the plans to the extent that their officials will allow them the money to help. If it isn't there chances are good it's in the city coffers. (Saving it to spend on the Marathons? Probably not!)

It's a pity what has happened to those people. I suppose they could be some grateful that they aren't among the dead. They were given a whole week to prepare and/or leave the area. Parts of NYC are high and dry.

I think too many of us believe that science and money has conquered nature. That's what happens when you live in an environment of concrete and glass all your life.

I grew up in the heartland. We had snowstorms that lasted days - out of power for a week or more, snowdrifts higher than our doors and windows. No way possible to drive anywhere. And precious little help came from anywhere when it was all over with. We dug ourselves out. That was about it.

Don't remember anyone whining. We knew those storms could kill and were ready for them. Maybe there was some denial with the city folks that anything that bad could happen to them?

Forgot to mention that the people out there have voted strict guns laws. Now that they could use them to protect themselves and their property they are being told by their leaders that they will be prosecuted for doing so. We still need the Second Ammendment, if not to protect us from government then to protect us from those who like a lot of government.

i guess now that the elections are over, they can go back to being poor people that no one in the government cares about.

This guy makes sense. I remember those storms also, and believe me, they were intense and extended. After that it was the digging out. I remember taking my sled to the neighbor's and helping dig out the entire driveway so the elder lady who lived there could get out if she needed. I don''t remember any whining, either. These people were just glad they had neighbor's that they could count on and repaid that debt by being there when someone else was n need.

I would actually argue that it is in large part the governments fault. No one had a problem blaming the government during Katrina, but now it's somehow not Obama's fault?

If it's not his fault what the hell are we spending millions of dollars for on FEMA? I mean come on these people can't even figure out how to order enough emergency water, yet we keep giving them billions of dollars every year.

THIS THEIR JOB! IT's THE ONE THING THAT THE ARE MANDATED TO DO!
