some posted this new discovered rift of some sort that runs from New York down through Louisiana last week onn glp,wish i would have saved it.

For those wondering about the 17 hr delay or such, the quake is listed in UTC time (Universal) for Ky area subtract 5 hrs. Occurred around 12:30 local Ky time.

Hubby is an underground coal miner. We live in SW VA. He's mad because I made him call in to work... He called me a Quaketard.

no it was actually around 1207 or 1208.
i felt it in asheville, and posted something at 1211.

Isn't it funny when some "preppers" tell the people along the coast to head for the mountains...that it's the only safe place to live? lol

I actually felt a slight rumble in Ohio!! First time I have ever felt one.

No place can be called safe.
Its just luck of the draw as to where a disaster will or wont happen.Just as safe in California as you would be any place else as far a disasters.Every place has some event thats possible to happen.

Yes, it does appear that the N American Craton has been experiencing activity all along its perimeter. This is the 30 day view of earthquakes > 2.5 from USGS

This reminded me of several other NA craton related discussions/events I've seen in the last year, so it's been going on fairly regularly. The question is whether this will just continue on as normal "adjustments" with no major damage, or whether it is signaling a buildup to something more "eventful".

I don't claim to be an expert, so can't offer an opinion on whether or when there will be any negative outcomes. I will say that, should this ever become more "eventful" at some point in the future, I've seen enough what-if HAZUS model runs using real population and infrastructure data to confirm that it would not be pretty.
