Berkey vs Reverse Osmosis vs Distiller...Experts, please help me!
Hey which of these three is best for the purest fluoride free water with the CHEAPEST cost? Considering the water waste of RO, power use of distiller, etc.

Are there any COUNTERTOP RO systems that work well? Im willing to pay around 400 if it's worth it. I don't want to drill a a hole on the drain pipe under the sink for an under counter RO system because i have an old copper pipe...

thanks a lot guys

You can build a simple wood burning boiler with copper tubing feeding out of it. You cool the copperpipe with a damp cloth and cool breeze, cheap and works great after unit is built. Check out youtube for videos....

don't. you can't distill water with copper tubing, it will poison it. use inox.

(and yes, you can distill alcohol in copper tubing, without problems).

black berkey filters, or ceramic berkefeld filters, don't filter any fluoride or heavy metals out. you need the special add-ons for that (and they won't last 23000 liters, like a pair of black berkeys)

Distilled water ain't that good for you over the long term.

Now add some mash to that and we got a party.

was it radiated water, or water with radioactive particulate?

radiated water can't be cleaned; water with radioactive particulate can only be cleaned by distilling, i think.

does anyone know whether a decent reverse osmosis setup can filter out radiactive particles?

There is no such thing as "radioactive water", other than deuterium and tritium. Dissolved radioactive particles in water, yes.

get a $200 distiller on amazon. I did this, and it gets rid of fluoride unlike most with filters, and costs much less to operate.

so, one has a stable half-life, the other is some 12 years. is that water safe for consumption? most sources say that deuterium and tritium isn't a real problem, because the chemical composition of the water stays the same... please enlighten me :)

They EPA states right on its web site the only thing that can remove radioactive particles from drinking water is using both carbon charcoal filters with reverse osmosis... look it up

Distillation is the best...
RO will remove fluoride but is very expensive and the filters build up with bacteria.

Also there is the a very inexpensive filter called "zero water" that will remove virtually all of the fluoride and has a meter. that is a good place to start before you can afford a good distiller (500 bucks)

[link to www.zerowater.com] its 34 bucks

You should not drink RO or Distilled water without re mineralization first it not only is mineral dead but can remove minerals from your body on the way out.

No purification such as berkey is not filtering really.
Real filtering removes everything from the water it is 100% clean but dead.
You can get an alkalizing filter to add to your RO filter they are cheap it puts the minerals back in it.
It makes it like the water that has dripped through rock like drips from the end of a Stalagmite.

"leaves healthy minerals" what a joke, that is dirt. ...distilled water is the VERY BEST water period, next to Rain which is how god makes water. berky is a overpriced joke might as well use a cheap brita filter.

Re: Berkey vs Reverse Osmosis vs Distiller...Experts, please help me!
Had an RO unit in my last house and loved it. I bought a Krystal Pure and it was the best.

I'm using a Berkey with Black Filters and Heavy Metal Filters. I'm in a condo atm while I build my next house... it's ok. It'll do as a temporary solution.

Using an electronic particulate meter the RO water would test around 5-8 PPM (tap water around 800 PPM - very hard water). The Berkey tested around 110-120 PPM, but tap water is only around 150 PPM in this condo.

Hope that helps.
