Attorneys are needed, but the ambulance chasers give them a bad name. If you go in the right direction you might eventually hit a case you can retire on or at least pocket a ton of money. You need to be good on your feet, verbally articulate, smart and argumentative does not hurt either. If you want normal job security and the ability to work anywhere even from home go into I.T. |

She specialized in divorce because its a big business. Then she got depressed and changed careers - went into hair design. She really likes it. Now she hears about all the other women who quit their chosen career's (nursing, teaching, real estate etc.) to work as escorts. Its rough out there. |

Alexander User ID: 15635858 United States 11/17/2012 05:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are lots of lawyers and a nursing shortage. As a nurse you can pretty much go anywhere and find a job anywhere on the planet. Not so for attorneys. Then if you're an attorney you either have to join a group or start your own law practice. Think overhead costs and you would have to provide your own health benefits, cover the expenses of an office, insurance, staff, etc. As a nurse all overhead costs are already covered and you get benefits (health care coverage, sick leave, vacation, etc). Benefits working for the county or nursing probably averages close to 30% that would be coming out-of-pocket if you're self-employed. Also, as an RN one can go to work immediately and not have to build up a practice. Nursing make good money (generally starting off around $30 per hour in the city). With over-time at time and a half much better. Some nurses make good money roaming to different hospitals with a registry. These are the contract nurses (travelers). We have relatives doing this. They take a motor home and contract where they make a lot of money. And there are many different types of areas of expertise for nurses so it's pretty interesting if one enjoys this type of work. Male nurses are in demand as well. The other profession that has a shortage is physical therapist who do the same thing when it comes to traveling and diversity. A number of them also specialize in wound care. It's not as expensive for the training 3-5 years depending on the program. LVN 3 years, RN 3-4 year program. What a great idea for someone considering this field! One of these niche specialties would be a good way to overcome the negatives associated with being a fledgling law student--an overcrowded, highly competitive occupation, big student loan debts.
