What will Obama do when the unthinkable happens?

Imagine the unthinkable for a moment.

It is 8:30am and you're on your way to work, or in front of the television eating breakfast.

You're listening to live updates on the radio in your car, or on television at home, of a full-scale invasion by the Israeli military into Gaza.

Five minutes later, when you're parking or putting your empty bowl in the sink, there is a news flash. Israeli warplanes have launched a surprise airstrike on Iran's Bushehr, Fordow and Qom nuclear reactors. Iran's retaliation is fierce. Hezbollah opens its guns on Israel, Iranian missiles rain down on Tel-Aviv and the Strait of Hormuz is closed.

Also in response, Moqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi army is reported to have called an uprising against the sitting government in Iraq and is expected to effectively seize control of Iraq by morning following an unprecedented national insurrection.

As you sit glued to the television, rolling text on the bottom of the screen features a news alert that North Korean tanks and troops are steamrolling across the DMZ into South Korea.

Everything is happening too quickly. Your mind struggles to process all of this information and the ramifications of it.

Then you hear that Chinese warships have encircled the Senkaku islands claimed by Japan and that Japan - faced with a war against North Korea and an open challenge from China - announces an emergency review of its Pacifist constitution that limits it from re-arming and going to war.

Meanwhile, very few people notice the other scrolling text that alerts news-watchers to a 'substantial force' of Russian armor deploying into the southern Caucasus and the Baltic states.

This is all in the space of an hour.

What would Obama do?

Where would his priorities be?

Can he juggle all of this at once?
