Who the hell would watch TV?

There's a lot of crap on TV, but we should all feel lucky living in the era of television. To think, for centuries, millions of people lived and died without ever knowing TV.

You're really telling me that there's NOTHING you enjoy about it? Well, you can call me a simpleton if it makes you feel better, but I don't buy into this "I'm superior to you because I gave up my TV, you're all sheep for not agreeing with me" self-righteousness that you propagate.

I watch TV. While there's a lot of crap, I still enjoy it sometimes.

only watch for sports, movies and 2 shows, im afraid some people i know are lost in it

The apologists..."I watch TV BUT only for x, y, and z, nothing else"...

Have some self-respect. Say, "I watch TV, and I enjoy it."

I like Fringe, but it has gone off on a more dark and violent tangent and less science, which has become a turnoff - probably pressure to appeal more to the masses who expect to see some "action" (aka - gratuitous violence) in their entertainment these days.

But that was kind of the point. These "I'm ABOVE television" types like yourself sound like their just repeating a mantra they've been taught.

Fair enough. All I was trying to get at is it's not either-or. You make it sound like it's either full-blown mind control or no TV viewing as the only options.

But that's a fair proposition. Maybe I should try it.

I only watch sports on TV.

even though they support the divide and conquer principle, they're still entertaining although I'm repulsed by commercials

Sports is a safe and harmless way to channel your innate tribalism. It's a tool created to stabilise society by channeling our innate tendencies in a way that causes minimum friction. Society is full of these tools, and we just act out our primal primal instincts in this channeled manner.

I dig certain things off the net that are made by TV so I can't complain too much, plus culture however delivered has always had a broad range. What I find most worrying is the fact that people get up on a morning and immediately switch it on to drone incessantly in the background whether they are listening or not. This passive acceptance of everything they put out I find unnerving it's not so much the deteriorating quality, like I said cultures are always uneven in quality, it's just that parts of it are downright dangerous.

here in switzerland we have to pay to watch tv (not cable, but normal tv). i think it is totally stupid to pay for bullshit mind control programming so i do not have a tv. i do not miss it at all.

I watch a couple shows. I think there is subliminal true messages in key shows. That's all i watch.

You sound like you are a subscriber to duality where everything is EITHER inherently Good or Bad, with no room in between. So you're on GLP sifting through the vast amounts of shit that's posted and this is somehow a productive endeavor as opposed watching some television, yes? Would you offer that the internet is free from this 'mind control' that you seek to avoid from the television?

People who quit watching tv either never go back and if they do speak of their regret of not remaining tv free. I didn't really get how insidious tv was till I quit.

I haven't watched tv in 5 years, And wont look back.

Now that i dont watch it, the subliminal messaging is astoundingly obvious. The whole time you are being pushed with fake financial propaganda, along with other mind numbing crap.

Now i say that, but that doesnt mean i dont enjoy the occasional series, where a producer actually put effort into creating something worthwhile. But i will view these externally.

Agree... Plus it helps to have a DVR/PVR so you can record what you wish to view and skip past all the commercials. For me the commercials are the worst element of the TV viewing experience because they are the driving force behind the unnecessary consumerism-based lifestyle and they serve to ingrain unwanted social mores (rules) in the subconscious of the viewer.

If you are truly awake you don't subject your mind to that kind of negativity. Your mind becomes whatever you feed it.

When you live your life as a human being, you let your heart rule your head/mind.

Your mind means nothing in the scheme of things, as it is empty, as you await the universe to fill it.

People who have no heart, have no rule over your mind, because they do not have the power to break it.
