System meant to intercept any missile fired at Israel from a distance of at least 70 km, slated to become operational in 2014.

The systems name itself is blaspheme against God.
 Quoting: TSWB21

Israel's real name for this system is called "David's Sling" It is the secularists and media that hates that name and wants to call it a magic wand.

Here's an article calling it "David's Sling" but says it works up to 180 miles.

Is "Magic Wand" another name for "David's Sling" or a different system? There's a BIG difference between 70 km and 180 miles.

The "David's Sling" system is designed to stop mid-range missiles. The military says it shot down its first missile in a drill Sunday.
The system is designed to intercept projectiles with ranges of up to 180 miles.

They say it will become operational in 2014. Do you think they could have a few systems operational in a few months if they really wanted to?
 Quoting: Dixie Normous

Blah, blah, blah. They would not even have a rock to throw if the US taxpayer didn't fund it.

and in return israel shares incredible technological advancements with us, it is an excellent working partnership.

I used to HATE israel so much. But lately ive kinda been on their side subconciously.. i dont think bad of them as a whole.. only mossad. But theyre no different than our own CIA so whatevs..

You used to "hate" Israel becausee you were an informed, Muslim-Marxist-Neo-Nazi-Paul-Tard-Conspiracy-Dork-in-Mommy's-Basement brain-washed... idiot.

Then you probably matured & got better informed, at least a little.

Part of is Israel's fault -- Israel is notoriously bad at PR/Information War because it has always naively, glibly belived that the TRUTH, justice and common sense prevail on their own merits.

That people, at least in the Free West, would be sympathetic or at least neutral-balanced-minded vis-a-vis Israel's cause because they would rightly perceive Israel & Zionism for what it has always been: a miraculous little Phoenix that has risen out of the ashes of Holocaust & 2,000 year Exile.... A Little Nation-State-That-Could that drained swamps, made the foresaken desert bloom in its biblical, historical, spiritual, arheological, ACTUAL Homeland....and that's been fighting off MASSIVE armies of blood-thirsty barbarians & terrorists ever since.

Much like King David and King Leonides, Israel is the ultimate UNDERDOG. Not the fake-as-3-thousand-dollar Bill Arabs who only started to calll themselves "Palestinians" out of uber-cynical, politically motivated reasons in the 1970's

(See: all-powerful KGB boss Yuri Andropov instructing an Egyptian Yassir Arafat to artificially create Project Palestine in order to have pretext to wage geo-political war against Israel's patron, the US & NATO).

An outpost of Western Civilization and a canary in the proverbial coal-mine.

I mean, it's one thing to just hate for the hate's sake. That's easy. And root for Team Mohammad against the "too successful" Jews. And even pat oneself on the back for being so "engligened" and "compassionate" toward the phony Palestinians...... But it's quite another when this little thing called REALITY intervenes: i.e. when Team Mohammad turns out to be 1.6 billion strong, extremely oil-rich, aggresively spreading itself all over the world through both hard- and soft-Jihad. Now Americans, Canadians and especially (West) Europeansn are starting to sense, if only Sub-consciously as you mention in your post, both the absurdity of hating Israelis AND the looming existential danger to the Free-Western Civilization...... LOL

As for Mossad... it's actually WAY less destructive & disruptive than KGB/FSB or even CIA. Mossad only goes after targets that are hell-bent on Israel's destruction. You don't see Mossad bully political dissidents or engage in Heroin trade --- like say Iran's Hezbollah, Al-Qods Force & IRGC who even made their way into Central America in recent years!

Everthing else about Mossad (9/l1, Steve Guttenberg's career, cooties epidemic, etc) is pure, unadulterated MYTH, often with bizarre anti-semitic overtones.

David's Sling/Magic Wand is designed to be in the MIDDLE tier of Arial defense.

Arrow, Patrio-PAC, Arrow-2 and soon Arrow 3 candle the ICBM threat.

Iron Dome handles the smaller, short-range stuff like qassam, mortar fire & the extended-range (Chinese) Grad rockets.

Magic Wand supposed to address the heavier rockets like Zelzal & shorter-range Ballistic missiles like Scud & Shahab, and low-flying Cruise-missiles. As well as enemy aircraft, of course, since it's going to eventually replace the aging American Hawk SAM (although Israel's HAWK is newer 3rd upgrade version).

Here's a kicker though: the 5th battery Iron Dome stunned everyone last week when it intercepted Iranian Fajr-5 on its way to Tel Aviv -- which it was not originally designed to do. So now there is a pleasant dilemma: if Iron Dome interceptor Tamir can handle rockets like Fajr-5 or even the older version Zelzal, which only Magic Wand was supposed to target.... then of coruse, you want Iron Dome to do it, because its interceptor is MUCH cheaper than Magic Wand's Stunner, nevermind the newer Patriot-Advanced Capability (PAC) interceptor that costs upward of 5 million dollars per shot!

So now Israel has to maybe expand Magic Wand's role -- i.e. it is also going to be able to catch BALLISTIC missiles that somehow managed to "leak" through the Arrow-2 & Arrow-3 tier of defense.

Either way, this is very important for Israel: it both Iron Dome and now Magic Wand it has shown that it can create world-class systems on a modest budget, in record short period of time. So it's a boost to its entire Military and Industrial reputation, I mean many countries respected it before, but when it came to spending billions of dollars on Israeli weaponry, maybe they were hesitant to do so --- especially because of, um, delicate political considerations..... Now, after unqualified success of Pillar of Defense, I bet you'll see a bit boost in the trust of Israel's BATTLE-PROVEN tech.
