Man Says His Wife Died After Airlines Said She Was Too Fat To Fly Home | |
BRIEF User ID: 381742 United States 11/27/2012 04:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't think most of you even read the article. The Solteszs spent three weeks in their native Hungary before Vilma needed to come back for treatment for diabetes and renal disease. She was likely very sick at that point. The airline reserved three seats for her but she was so heavy they couldn't get her out of the wheel chair. They tried to move her for 30 minutes and had to give up. I would hardly say the airlines are at fault. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7570540 Exactly. And imagine if the airlines somehow managed to get her into the 3 seats.. very likely they could have harmed some part of her body, then he'd probably be suing for something else. Somebody that heavy, you'd pull their arms off trying to get them out... I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

If they had hit turbulence and she were thrown around, imagine the injury to others with 425 pounds slamming into you? I feel sorry for her, but I see the airline POV for safety reasons. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12966144 Helloo?? Society does not want us to think what it would feel like a a 425Lb person slamming into any of us!! Hello?? |

She was a human being, loved by her husband and God. Quoting: Lisa*Lisa What makes you all think you're superior to her just because your body is smaller? A person is not defined by their size, it's the size of the heart that matters, and most of the replies in this thread are sickening. Like a pack of wolves making fun of someone elses pain and misfortune. Disgusted. Exactly Lisa. Well said. I'm sickened by some of the heartless comments in this thread, but, sadly, not surprised. I despair of some people. |

Just watch, the airlines will lose millions and be forced to supply electric lifts on all the planes and we'll end up paying an extra $30 per flight because of it. |

Diabetes meds can cause weight gain, and so can renal disease. |

No. Hussein Obama-Bounel will write an EO mandating free travel for all obese persons, to be paid for by normally-sized people. Book it! |

On a serious note, I agree with the poster who said that if the airlines flew her over, they should've flown her back. You can't strand someone overseas after you've taken them over there. Lady Jane Smith Forum Administrator User ID: 28027578 Sweden 11/27/2012 10:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If she were that large, would she even be able to pass the narrow aisle on an aircraft? Quoting: Lady Jane Smith She certainly could not have sit in an emergency exit row, so that means she could render the aircraft a death trap if there was an emergency evacuation & she blocked exit for other people. I am sorry this happened to her, but I would not want to get trapped in a burning aircraft because another passenger was a human barrier. You are one fucking retard. I hope you burn to death in a plane crash full of really skinny people. Then you'll realize that in reality, even if the plane was full of midgets they would trample you to death. It doesn't take a fat person to create a barrier for you to move. All it takes is a bunch of normal sized people stuffed into a small area and then have them freak out and trample each other. If anything, sitting next to her might protect you from getting trampled. She would act as a firewall. Over react much?? Its not like she was gearing up to be a centenarian. Lets face facts here, she made the decision to maintain a weight beyond the physical limitations of what the human body is designed for. She killed herself and has no one to blame but herself. |

Imagine what a problem it would have been for her to have a severe attack while on the flight. At first I also thought they should have flown her back since they flew her over, but since she was having medical problems, it was too much of a risk for them. She probably should have gone to a hospital there, instead of trying to board an airplane. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 25450407 United States 11/27/2012 11:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hungary is NOT a third world country. Since they tried to get her on the plane and could not there ARE plenty of advanced medical facilities in Hungary where she could have been treated. The ability to treat major diseases in Hungary is not much different than in the US. (the last time I had to go to the hospital while traveling in Europe, Switzerland, the medical services were on par with the biggest of any US hospital, and Hungary is not much different from Switzerland wrt it's hospital care abilities) The fact that apparently they did NOT SEEK medical treatment in Hungary indicates to me that THEY (the woman and her husband) were the neglegent ones!! The widower is a GOLD DIGGER who KNOWINGLY took his very sick wife out of the country and then AVOIDED getting medical care for her when she fell ill AGAIN. I have absolutely NO SYMPATHY for that man. Hopefully the case will be dismissed ... and lawyer fees will be required to be paid by the husband. |
