how to cope with an alcoholic parent

to everyone who doubts she is an alcoholic

she has admitted it herself

when she doesnt drink she is very anxious and jumpy and depressed and just basically a wreck

im going to show her this thread tomorrow and tell her she needs to go to rehab

The thing about being an alcoholic or a drug addict is that you can't see what an asshole it makes you. You think everything is normal and you have a wonderful family that loves you, and that you try so hard for them. You see, alcohol and drugs blunt the self-assessment abilities. You think everything is fine. Then when you finally sober up you realize that not only is it not fine -- it's been a shitty mess for years. Drunks literally can't understand what the problem is. The cant put themselves in others shoes and understand how they look in others eyes. It's easy for them to edit or erase memories of negative things. This is why its so frustrating.

If your mother doesn't make efforts to shape up she will end up all alone and she will lose the love of her children. Like that ranting Australian piece of shit.

she justifies her addiction with the "i have a job and im an adult so i can do whatever the fuck i want"

what she tells me when she is in her verbally abusive state is so annoying

its like she thinks shes right about everything
