Steps into the JST for just a few. Salutes the Captain and leaves hugs for who ever wants or needs one

Today is our Remembrance Day in Holland. 4 May 1940 was the day that Germany invaded the Netherlands. So, every year on this day, at 8 pm we remember all those brutally murdered in WWII and those who lost their lives in peace keeping missions across the world, or by violence througout the years, by keeping two minutes of silence.

We must never forget what happened back then and there after. By remembering through silence we realise that the peace that so many gave their lifes for can not be taken for granted. Nowadays it is so easy to degrade others, just out of habit, because others do it, or follow those who mean harm on others. It is so common to yell for war, without knowing the devastating impact war has on our personal lifes and that of others.

We must learn that war and violence is not something to root for. History has shown us often enough that war has always lead to misery, pain, loss and endless tears. That is why we need to remember and honor the ones we lost and gave their lifes for our freedom.

We must never forget.

I wrote quite a few poems in Dutch on this. This is a translation of one of them

Done matters

he doesn't talk about yesterday
yesterday has died so long ago

pale lips carry done matters
what ever was, will never be again
but in broken eyes splinters cut
through a shot to death life line

no, he doesn't talk about yesterday
silence, just like the mass grave
holding everything he loved so dearly,

now for more than seventy years
