I used to have a roommate years ago who used to go out to the Mojave and do his vision-quest thing. Then he moved to LA to go find Castenada.

He would be drinking multiple pots of coffee, smoking cigarettes, reading The Eagles Gift til 2:30-3:00 AM; then sleep way too late in the morning and then have to drive 95 mph down I-5 to work in the morning to avoid being fired. lol

Cracked me up when I chewed his ass out for it.

But yet on weekends he, I, and another roommate would spend all weekend camping or roaming out in the middle of nowhere in that harsh God-forsaken Mojave...

That's cool. I haven't seen that dude since 1998 or so when he moved to LA, then back down to Sandy Eggo/Mission Hills/North Park, then back up to LA, then onto Venice, then Redondo Beach then ... (I looked him up on search websites).

We were living in Carlsbad back then a block from the ocean. Had house parties with our Goth (non-LDS) 21yo neighbors from SLC upstairs, and Sat Nite Fight Night parties, runs (RACES) along the beach on the sand (avoiding all the inland tourons), trips down to Mexico (Ensenada, Rosarito, TJ), LA, Santa Barbara, Mammoth, Vegas, Big Bear/Idyllwild/Palomar, Jamul, Malibu, Pismo, Mt Whitney, etc..

Life was damn good back then. really really good.

As long we we could pay our share of the damn fone, rent, and electric bills. Grab a 12-pak and jump in the apt pool after work. Or jump in the ocean and bodysurf til the sun disappeared...
