What use is a revolution that fails to address the fundamental problem: the existence of domination in all its forms, and the myth of redemptive violence that perpetuates it?" - Walter Wink |

As opposed to sitting close to the woodstove and dreading climbing into a cold bed. No hot water bottle DB <3? I lived in a flat without heating for 6 years about 20 years ago & my bed used to feel damp with the cold. Frost used to form in the insides of what were steel framed windows. I wouldn't like to go back to living like that but it could be a lot worse if you lived in the streets homeless. I don't have a hot water bottle but I have cats! And yes, being homeless is much worse. I also lived in a plywood shack with no running water and no electricity near Buffalo NY for a year or two. I learned that for myself, hot running water and reliable refrigeration are not luxuries, rather they are necessary for my mental state. I also learned that kind of off grid living is a full time job and unless you are independently wealthy, it is not a sustainable lifestyle in today's world. The cats would be just like furry water bottles then DB <3 & just as warm. Many years ago I came home drunk & filled a hot water bottle when I was in that flat & fell asleep on top of it & got cooked. It was really badly burned & I didn't feel a thing when slept. I agree with you that off grid living would be harsh especially in colder climate & even making sure you had wood for a fire would be exhausting. that would have been a really hard time in Buffalo & I'm glad you got through it like you did dear friend. & Running towards the weekend. |
