The Earth is boring
Let's be real here -- the Earth is so boring. The ancient animals on our planet were way cooler than what we have now. Opabinias, Ichtiosaurus, Dinosaurs. The cooler present-day animals are like living fossils and the other ones got very generic while 'evolving'. Present-day animals are the most generic lifeforms of all IMO.
