The first few times she scratches in the wrong spot, pick her up, scold her with a phrase you will use all the time such as 'No, Patches! Bad kitty'. Then take her to the scratching post and show her that it is OK to scratch there. Then if she persists doing it after a few times, add the spray bottle in as a deterrent... then after you spray her, pick her up, say your phrase 'No, Patches! Bad Kitty!' and take her to the post again. When she does scratch on the post, be sure to reward her with a 'good phrase' like 'Good kitty! Good girl!' in a slightly higher pitched voice. And if you can, play with her & her favorite toy too, as a reward... My cats love the long plastic sticks with the feathers on the end. :-) |

If the cat is misbehaving, never hit it. That's just mean and it will make the cat run away. Spray it with a water bottle and firmly say NO. Cats respect this and get what you mean. Also you can take them gently but firmly by the loose skin between shoulder blades and gently push them down and say NO. that's a domination move and it reminds them you are top cat. Mostly they are just adorable and awesome. You will enjoy many many years of love and laughs. Just be good to the little kitty...they are really special creatures. :) |

This is the result of having animal loving daughters. Anyhow I am a dog person but have a soft spot for cats too. They are easy to train. When you get the litter box set up, take the kitty, put it in the box and kinda rub their paws back and forth in the litter. That literally is all I had to do to train them. Keep the box clean. That's important. Good luck :) |

She's a female so I don't think females spray She will use the box by instinct -- When she first comes to your house, lock her in the room with the litterbox for about 30 minutes. Make sure you go in there and sit with her while she explores, and if she doesn't find the litter box on her own, put her in it. She will dig & scratch and she will figure out what it is for pretty easily. Female cats don't spray. However, if you don't spay her, be prepared for some caterwauling when she's in heat, hehe. |

I was planning on getting those sticks with the feathers and maybe a laser light |

Sometimes I think he is bored and I want another kitten for him to play with, but he is spoiled rotten (drinks only bottled water and eats only from Chinese bowls)and I dont know if he could handle another kitty getting his attention. |
