Ok, this is the jouney lineman's explanation. Dust is the likely cause. Texas has been dry. Usually the rain washes the dust away...When there is a bulid up of dust, then fog, the minerals in the fog causes the electricity to arc to the pole and cause the pole to catch fire.

So, there you have it, no conspiracy. Solar activity is not going to hit just Texas, guys. :-)
