This is big news. No, this is a scientific paper. Big news will be when it actually happens. Yeah you're right....this is absolutely nothing to worry about and is a bullshit thread. So what if there is a major earthquake and tsunami at Lake Tahoe, right? And thanks for the one star for my bs thread. Last Edited by Nika on 12/07/2012 09:08 PM :infnty: :ihavgsbmp: |

This is big news. No, this is a scientific paper. Big news will be when it actually happens. It's scientific fact! It's not a matter of if but a matter of when. Probably soon considering scientific evidence shows this fault erupts every 3 to 4000 years and it's now been 4500 yrs. :infnty: :ihavgsbmp: |

ALL faults are overdue for some crazy quake... matter of fact is we can't pinpoint when and where and how big yet and yet we as humans want to control everything so we just say oh no it is overdue even though the earth decides when it is due and not due... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 28479938 ![]() 12/07/2012 09:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Scientists say Lake Tahoe area overdue for another earthquake Not only that, fault could also produce huge tsunami as it has in the past, research shows A tsunami-producing fault in Lake Tahoe is overdue for another earthquake, scientists said here Tuesday at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union. The West Tahoe Fault is capable of producing a magnitude-7.3 earthquake and tsunamis up to 30 feet (10 meters) high in the clear blue lake, where million-dollar homes line the shore, researchers said. Earthquakes strike every 3,000 to 4,000 years on the fault, and the most recent shaker was 4,500 years ago, indicating the fault is overdue for another earthquake Tsunami risk Because the fault crosses the lake, scientists worry a future earthquake will cause a tsunami in Lake Tahoe. The monster waves could form in two ways: by the fault displacing ground under the lake, similar to Japan's Tohoku tsunami, or by causing landslides that displace the water. A combination of both could also create an even bigger wave. Layers of sediment preserved in and around Lake Tahoe record evidence of past tsunamis, said Graham Kent, director of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory in Reno. There's also another disaster waiting to happen in same area (in Nevada County California side). There is a dam near Truckee called Fortis Dam. About a year ago they discovered a new fault right at the dam that is capable of a 7plus eq. If that dam goes it will flood Reno with probability of a large loss of lives. |
