Anonymous Coward User ID: 29553357 United Kingdom 12/10/2012 01:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Lastnight the whole sky lit up for just a split second with white light. It was just like a camera's flash bulb. Huge flash but nothing like lightning. I was wondering if it was a bit of meteor or something but I've seen those before an they made the sky green and had a tail. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24537507 Where? Texas? Yeah. South Texas. Did you see it too? Holy fuck wait a minute, i was laying in bed and a flash woke me up...i thought it was a car light or something but wtf?! sounds more like a brain tumor |

Quoting: 1908247 First two approach dates, on 1982 and 1991, there were 6.0 quakes on the same days. As for the 2002 approach there was a 5.9 Yes, I did look that up. Quakes on all 3 of last approach dates. Nice work. I did not post because it was 6.1 and 6.3 seemed insignificant but 5.9 was per USGS |

Quoting: TheTruthWorker It is a small 36 meter Apollo class near earth object. It makes it's close approach between Earth and Moon... Earth --- 2012-Dec-11 --- 10:08 UTC --- 0.0015 AU / .06 LD Moon --- 2012-Dec-11 --- 16:52 UTC --- 0.0021 AU It will pass through the Earth's shadow, a very rare event. According to JPL Horizons data, previous close approaches were: 1982-Nov-11 --- 0.4910 AU 1991-Apr-14 --- 0.2563 AU 2002-Feb-22 --- 0.1752 AU 2012-Dec-11 --- 0.0015 AU (next) [link to ssd.jpl.nasa.gov] fixed AU not LD thank heavens.. One of these posts puts it 0.60 LD the original one puts it at 0.06LD. 0.06LD is stil like 15,000 or so miles out there, but within the GeoSync Satellite distance. Okay, which it is 0.6LD or 0.06LD. Oh, I forgot, like spelling, accurate numbers are not required. .6 LD Fixed [link to spaceweather.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1271534 United States 12/10/2012 02:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So, an asteroid is discovered on the 9th and will come by on the 11th... that's only 3 days notice. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 851578 Who's to say a bigger and more devastating one won't show up before the 21st (or sometime soon)? All of these scientists who say that if something were coming to destroy us that we would see it by now are full of it...it could happen, despite what they say - they don't know everything. By the way, I also saw the flash last night (it was like lightning in a clear sky). they don't usually say we'll see it...I've always heard they would most likely not catch it...and yes, an amateur might when they don't, but the amateur's got to have a way to get his info out and verifiable quickly... |

TrinityMountain User ID: 20527800 Canada 12/10/2012 02:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If this , by any chance , does come close to us it would burn up. Why is this pinned ?? If this , by any chance , does come close to us it would burn up. Why is this pinned ?? Why is it then that some smaller ones very recently have come all the way in and actually struck buildings and ammo dumps. One hit a priests house and killed him. One skipped into the atmosphere and then skipped out. It depends what they are made of actually also. READ. This ones big enough to actually cause some problems. If it hit a big city center it could actually cause lots of problems. Its not just size its the velocity and speed at which they travel. This is going to be happeneing all the time coming up. We are seeing them already every other day. The sky's have never been so busy. I have a freind in an astronomy club who told me that there's going to be lots of this going on in the future as we are entering into the most conguested part of the Milky Way. Watch your backs and the Sky's. They are not going to see them all coming inbound. Friendship isn't about whom you have known the longest...Its about who walked into your life and said...I am here for you. |

By the way, I also saw the flash last night (it was like lightning in a clear sky). From my book: Events seem to be clustered at 20,000 year intervals, not millions. Remember, the face of the Moon we see always faces Earth, yet is covered with craters except for the lava flows. We have an atmosphere so we have erosion, otherwise we would look like the Moon or worse. For us to leave the survival of the human race exclusively to Earth habitation is beyond irrational or suicidal. It is incomprehensible thinking beings would not do everything in their power to build a sustainable colony off planet. If nothing else they could play Adam and Eve and repopulate it after the atmosphere clears. Otherwise humanity risks joining the dinosaurs. While Erosion does get rid of most asteroid impact craters, it 's also that we have an atmosphere that make them burn up, the Moon doesn't. Granted I believe the crater count for the Carolina Eddas is over 10,000 now. Government is a body largely ungoverned. |
