Anonymous Coward User ID: 8259375 United States 06/14/2013 11:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They want me to sign up to save money on my electric bill. Quoting: GreaseTank Is this a scam or a legit company? How is they can provide cheaper rates than my local electric company (RG&E)? I see 2 different websites for them: 1) [link to newyorkpowerandgas.com] 2) [link to www.americanpowerandgas.com] Well this link explains how any supplier can provide cheaper rates than RGE or any utility in New York: [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] And yes, it is a legit company. The owners of AP&G have been in business for over 35 years enrolling over 2 million customers in many states throughout North America. More Info: AP&G currently offers a 5% rate reduction off what you currently pay. There are no cancels fee(you can leave at any time) but if you remain and "stay loyal" with AP&G, after 12 months, as a "thank you" they send you a 25% check in the mail to you off of what you averagely pay per month (on supply). |
ripped-off User ID: 32357962 United States 02/06/2014 12:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This company is a joke! Go ahead, Google their address. 411 Cleveland Street, Clearwater, FL. It is a gift shop. I should have done my homework. Be prepared to be ripped off if you believe they are a legitimate energy provider. DO NOT BUY POWER FROM THESE THIEVES! They suck you in with a low introductory rate and then triple it 2 months later without any notification. You just get a nasty surprise when your utility bill arrives. I started at $0.0630 per kWh, and 2 months later got a bill for $650.00! The rate was now $0.234 per kWH and I can't switch away from them for another month! |
FMR User ID: 54601763 United States 02/19/2014 05:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I enrolled with American Power and Gas in December 2013 at an initial rate of 6.7 cents per KwH, with the understanding the rate would be variable but always "competitive." After 12 months, I would receive a 25 pct rebate on all my bills paid. Now I have a bill covering mid-January to mid February where my rate is 23.77 cents/KwH. Their explanation for the enormous increase: the very cold weather. I don't believe that any such weather change can cause rates to legitimately quadruple when gas supplies in the US are at an all time high. I called the Public Utility Commission, which told me that I am liable for the bill because I accepted a "variable" rate. I intend to file a formal complaint. Otherwise, I am stuck, because if I don't pay, my electricity will be shut off. And you will be too if you sign on with this company. |

Charles Gillis User ID: 53703296 United States 02/27/2014 03:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In November 2013 we were sent a list of alternate electric suppliers from PPL in N.E. Penna. We chose American Power & Gas who offered a "come on" price of approx 6.5 cents per kilowatt hour for first month then told us the price would change BUT NEVER BE HIGHER THAN WHATEVER PPL was charging which was at the time approx 8 3/4 cents per KH. We went for it saving approx 20% in first month. In 2nd month American Power more than doubled their price to almost 16 cents per KH while PPL stayed at 8 3/4 cents. When I called to complain, they denied anyone had told me cost would not exceed PPL's after mistaking me for new customer and having told me that again and seemed shocked when I said it did not happen because my KH charge was almost double what PPL's was. Then they told me there was special circumstances and thats why I was charged more. I fired them that day but could not rid myself of them until the next meter reading between feb 16 & 21. My next bill from PPl showed my cost per KH went up another 55% to .22 cents per KH. These are desperate rip off pigs who will do or say anything to steal an extra $100 -200 of our money and should not be listed by legit companies such as PPL as alternative suppliers. They count on customers not checking their bills, I checked mine and am totally disgusted with the likes of American Power & gas. |
lanzate User ID: 32082141 United States 02/28/2014 03:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This company is a complete scam. They are still listed as a place to choose for an electric supplier from the Pennsylvania website but their days are numbered. They get you in the first month and then raise your rates 3x's the amount. I have complained everywhere I can think of but it is now another month before i can switch. Choosing them will cost me $500. Stay away. |

Their hours on their answering machine clearly say "hours of operation: 9am - 7pm". How is that over time? Clearly a lying, cheating, scmamming company. She then refused to put me on with the manager claiming there is no manager around. How is your department even running without a manager or a supervisor to oversea the work? I work very hard for my money I dont deserve this shit. I understand the weather has been bad lately but seriously? Tripled rate? I have cancelled with them and waiting for a call back from the manager. STAY AWAY FROM American power and Gas! Scammers! |
JetsRock1991 User ID: 32554625 United States 03/09/2014 05:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was with Ambit for about 2 years and they were constantly cheaper than my utility, but only by about half a penny per kwh. One day I received a call from American Power and Gas, about 10 months ago. I was told since I had already enrolled with Ambit I was in the system and could get a more competitive rate, and also pollution free energy. I enrolled my business as well and they sent me this really nice Green plaque which I could hang up in my business. My electric expenses have been much lower than I can recall in recent memory even with the power surge. Also in 2 months I am due to receive a couple of rebate checks. I have been comparing my rates over the past 6 months to various other suppliers, and I am making out extremely well. I have never had a bill over 13.5 cents per kwh, and more often then not my bill is south of 8 cents. I am so far very happy with my expierence and would definitely recommend American Power and Gas. bpuharic User ID: 7102492 United States 03/28/2014 08:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This company is a disaster. Their introductory rate was 6.3c/KWHr. That was fine for January...saved me about $250. THEN came February...bend over and grab your ankles time! Good GOD! The charge was 19c/KWHr...instead of my usual bill of $350, the bill was almost $800. When I called to complain I got the run around about how they had to pay 30c/kwhr and other customers would be seeing huge increase in March. My bill in March was 14c/kwhr. Even with the 25% discount they offer if you stay with them for 12 months, there's NO WAY to recover those costs. Their business model is a rip off. DO NOT go with these guys! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 54700675 United States 04/10/2014 01:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are many good alternative energy providers and you can save money, and lots of shitty ones. Just make sure you go with one that you can cancel at any time or that has a low cancel rate. Your states website or a local utility watchdog group will show the comparisons between the providers. Anyone on a variable rate for gas got screwed last winter. Its all based on speculation on their part, they guess on the gas needs for the winter and buy or commit to buy x amount in advance. If gas they bought gets used too fast they have to buy more at top dollar and you get the increase. If the winter had been warm your bill may have gone down. If you switch gas companies do it in the summer on a fixed rate, not a variable rate. That said, there are a bunch of scam companies out there, but if you do your homework you can definitely save money by switching to a reseller. |

I see 2 different websites for them: 1) [link to newyorkpowerandgas.com] 2) [link to www.americanpowerandgas.com] Definitely a scam, but done by businessmen, politicians and not your everyday street huckster. Think about it, the energy company's are in a monopoly, they make the power they make the stations. A new start-up can't come out of nowhere, and use established 3rd party energies, there's no way they can continue to provide it cheaper than the big boys. Like someone else said, ENRON. Sub-prime-energy. |
Business in PA User ID: 63542922 United States 10/02/2014 03:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SCAM..STAY AWAY.. As a small business owner, we are always looking on ways to save money. Our bill went from 87.77 a month to 265.00. Our older building has radiators that supply the heat to our building- meaning we don't pay for heat. our space is 1200ft and our only electric we have is our overhead lighting computer/phone. (2 years ago our landlord replaced all overhead lighting to energy efficient). At first I was thinking that we might be paying the electric to other stores in our building- possible bad reading? Wishful thinking...American Power and Gas ripped us off and when I called them, they said its because we signed up for Green Energy. hmmm..i don't remember that and why on earth would I pay more when we are looking for ways to save? We payed an extra 177.23/month for Green Energy??? The people I spoke to said they would contact customer service and look into an investigation- that was a month ago- after I asked for for a rebate. I switched company and AM&G have called weekly, sometimes multiple times a day- when I do answer the call they proceed to earn my business back by telling me its a shame that i will not get my rebate check- and I need to come back to them so I can get it. (do not fall for this, the rebate check will never equal the overages they charge) The girl that keeps calling is relentless, pushy, rude. After listening to her for 15 minutes and politely explaining to her that I will NEVER use this company until they refund my hard earned money. She hung up on me |

After the third time of saying no I brought my angry Anatolian Shepherd to the door and he scared the bejeepers out of them as I said no and told them to leave. |
