World Trade Center's $10 million antenna finally arrives in New York after 1,500-mile journey

-A barge carrying nine pieces of the steel spire was brought across the New York Harbor from New Jersey's Port Newark
-The delivery had been delayed due to a legal dispute, during which the Port Authority accused ADF Steel of holding the antenna ‘hostage’
-The dispute had threatened to delay completion of One World Trade Center

The trade center's director of construction, Steven Plate, says the spire marks a post 9/11 milestone that signifies New York City is 'better than ever.' The heaviest piece weighs nearly 70 tons.

**The spire is expected to rise into the Manhattan sky by spring.

Plate says the 1,776-foot high-rise — symbolizing America's freedom — will be the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.

**Completion of the building is scheduled for the end of 2013.

Symbol of resilience: World Trade Center spire is hoisted 104-stories to crown New York's tallest building in emotional display

The first section of the steel spire set to crown One World Trade Center as the third tallest building in the world has been hoisted 1,776 feet to its top today.

Described as a symbol of resilience from the construction workers and people watching below, nine of the 18 pieces were lifted up 104-stories in New York’s lower Manhattan on Wednesday in a moving 45-minute display.

'It means a lot to all of us. It really shows the resilience of the region and even the world,' Steven Plate, WTC's director of construction told CBS. 'This is part of history in the making.'

In August 2012, One World Trade Center's steel officially topped out at the nominal 105th floor, at a total height of 1,368 feet. As of February 24, 2013, the tower's concrete construction is largely complete, and its glass panels are being installed in sections between the 90th and 100th floors. Installation of the podium's lower glass curtain wall has also begun. Roof and parapet steel are being finalized, along with the subsections of the 408-foot (124 m) spire. The tower's antenna was shipped to New York in November 2012; the first antenna section was hoisted to the top of the tower on *December 12, 2012, and installed on **January 15, 2013. Installation of the spire is expected to be completed by March 2013, pending weather conditions.
