Here's a link to the municipality plans, since you're in Adams you may already be covered by something similar and not know it -

[link to www.adamscounty.us]

I imagine it may impact you in some way, even if you don't build giant subdivisions because there are certain specifications I THINK (been a while since I looked at it and I get too disgusted to pick through) about provisions about x houses per acre or x acres per house, I cannot remember for certain. Check the links though. Are you familiar with Agenda 21?

I don't usually look at the Merchandiser, but you may want to try advertising there as well.

Thanks for the link.

I am sort of familiar with agenda 21. What impact does this have on subdivisions?

We will have to try advertising in the merchandiser here very soon.

I think any new subdivisions that are going to be built would be impacted, as how I understand it. Here's part of it, from the link:

• Include language in subdivision and land development ordinances to require developers to dedicate land for recreation or pay a fee in lieu of land for all new subdivisions. Adopt recreation plans to permit the charging of fees.
• Each subdivision or land development should be reviewed to determine whether the dedication of land or the fee in lieu of land would be more appropriate, based upon the size and location of the development and open space and recreation planning.
• Include standards in subdivision and land development ordinances for the design and construction of recreation facilities. Review standards of National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and Adams County Vision for Parks, Recreation, and Open Space for appropriateness.
 Quoting: Laura Bow

Thanks for sharing that.

10+ years ago husband and an invester bought out about 150 acres of land outside of Gettysburg. They divided off about ten 8 acre (around that) lots, and left the rest as open space. Originally we left more space open than what the township said in the ordinance. We sold the remaining acreage so we do not know what will happen with the remaining open land.

Was it anywhere near the battlefield? Maybe the park usurped it.

Re: Where's all the work, Mr. President??? (need prayers)
I definitely feel for you, OP! I'm not real far from you over here in the Southwest corner of PA. My father has a construction business that I worked for up until 2011. That's when the bottom completely dropped out and he's now down to a two man crew. He frequently did work for historical sites in the area along with building some rather elaborate homes. He's now down to a 3 man crew living off of many small jobs that he picks up. He works for a couple weeks, finishes the job, and then is looking for something new. So, I know how stressful it must be for your family.

I'll tell you how I managed the situation. While the work slowed up, I took a three week course to get my CDL's. I'm now employed by an oil company. It was about a month long process from starting training to employment. Just don't limit yourself to a single industry and make sure you look into alternative industries just in case things fall threw with construction. Construction here has all but dried up besides a new casino going in and a Wal-Mart nearby, so as others have said, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better.

As for the government offering help to those who are small business owners or self employed, it's worthless. I know from experience. Government has no problem holding their hand out to collect taxes from you during the good times, but forget it if you need help from them during the bad.

Either way, everyone including myself can use a prayer every now and then in this uncertain economy and I'll be sure to send some your way. I hope you the best in finding a way to prosperity again where you can be certain that you can provide for your family through these tough times.

This project was done west of Gettysburg off route 30 between Cashtown and Gettysburg. I do not know if the park service had a hand in it (hubby would have known).

Thanks for your input. I am sorry to hear about your father's business. This just totally stinks.

As to the CDL course you took, was that expensive?

See I would like to train to do medical coding which is something I could eventually do from my own home office. Reason being I have a young daughter, and both of my vehicles are old (bankruptcy they take your good vehicle and leave you with JUNK) so doing a job from home would be my best option. However I am having extreme difficulty getting help to cover the costs as I don't have money to train for this. :( I tried back in march of 2012 to get help through PA careerlink but I was turned down because for a family of three we went over the mark by just a wee bit. They told me to try again 6 months later, but by their calculations, still over just a wee bit. I am beyond frustrated!!!!

So I am between a MAJOR rock and a hard place. And to top it all off, I just found out today my bank account is in the hole due to a screw up of PNC's online bill paying system!!! So I had to go put my last $15.00 into that stupid account to fix it. So now I have a whole $2.00 in my account and no money to go for groceries or put gas in my vehicle.

Oh, and we just received a medical bill that our crappy insurance did not pay for. $1,500.00 blood work bill. I only sent them in $15.00 this month because that is all I could afford, and then I get a message from them on my machine the other day!!!! I did not call them back. I am sure they are going to tell me that's not enough of a payment but tough that is all I have!!!!!!

OH yeah it gets better. My old car has a leaking heater core. No money to fix that, and I can't drive it. So if the vehicle I drive now breaks down, I am screwed. Plus this vehicle I drive right now came from the auction end of october. We are supposed to have had it inspected by now. Unfortunately we do not have the money to fix what's wrong with it to get it to pass inspection. So again, between a rock and hard place. I hope we don't get busted, because then we will have to pay a fine for not having the vehicle inspected. Ugh.

They are. Those cabins are SPECTACULAR. 11 of the original ones we remodeled (they were just old block cabins dating from the 50's and icky) and the rest were built brand new. I just wish there would be some way to spread the word about that project we did, like get it into a magazine or something like that. I do not know how to go about that though.

Of course I can't share any photos here because I can't afford to upgrade my membership here. :(....

Otherwise, if you get a website up, you can always mention it on there. You can still share pics, just have to post a link...you could use this -

Yes Laura good suggestions on imageshack and putting up a sign. As to signs we have no signs at this point. The signs we used to have disappeared over the years and unfortunately NO money to replace them.

That's awful, if nothing else maybe see if the lodge would be willing to put a mention of you on their website, you would think they would be proud to show it off? Like I suggested earlier, I don't know if it's something you'd be interested in but I have seen people on Craigslist barter. Perhaps that may be something to consider?

These are the stories we are hearing daily out here in CA also. No $ for auto, businesses closing, kids living at home and being ripped-off by corporate employers, applying for hundreds of jobs with no answer, and every income level I know is selling items for way below value to get through the month.
I am so sorry for your plights, prayers sent.
It is trickling up now, even the corpse feels it, but the corpse can handle the losses by cutting employees pay and fudging hours, raising prices, bigger ads; small business can't weather it, it is so sad.
Regarding the cars, try to find a guy in your area who is retired from a good auto job and see if he will help. We have quite a few of them here, they do not advertise but get referrals from others.

It just blows me away how this administration we have just ignores these problems.

I know of a few people in my area that are selling off household goods in order to make it through the month. It is sickening. The thing is, what do you do when you run out of things to sell?

One of my neighbors down the road who lost a job and is on unemployment (lucky her) says she puts in 7 to 10 job apps per week. She has been doing this for more than a year.

PNC is everywhere, that's one of the reasons why we still have the account but don't use it. We had issues with the debit card number being lost MULTIPLE times as well, and I don't usually use it. We had odd "McCaffee Virus Program" or "bicycle" parts appear a few times. So that always resulted in calling and cancelling the card.

Wow those ARE beautiful cabins......

OP this is a crying shame. For some reason I cannot stop thinking about your situation.

I will post something if it occurs to me - work opportunities, I mean.

Thank you very much. It is a crying shame. Again, if we would have done a job like this 6+ years ago, we would have had tons of commercial job projects knocking at our door.

Again I wish I could figure a way to go advertising in my area of the state cheaply. I could do the merchandiser, but they have raised their ad costs and are more expensive for business ads. As to Craigslist doesn't seem to reach enough people. I have an ad there right now.

Although what you're going through does suck, i think we need to stop blaming other people for the shit we're going through. Obama got handed a lot! don't expect him to be able to fix everything in 4 years, this kind of mess takes time. All we can do now is do our bests to help and speed up the process. I heard Apple was moving production back to the US from china. Outsourcing is our biggest problem

"Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced that Apple will produce some of their products in the US, starting in 2013."

I believe that its up to you whether you want to succeed or not, people complain about the lack of jobs. But a lot of them don't get off their asses and search, jobs wont come to you, you have to put some effort and look for it yourself.
I live in southern California, San Diego to be exact.
One of the most expensive cities to live in, and I will admit that shit isn't as bad as people like to make it seem.

It's not good out there, period. Especially in my neck of the woods. It may still be okay around cities and in certain counties, but a good deal of people out there are hurting. All you have to do is look at the number of foreclosures and people putting their homes up for sale to get out from under them.

Try going from an income of 80 to 100k a year, down to 34K and trying to then keep a roof over your head.

Don't lose heart, OP.

I am glad to see your thread again.

Told my daughters about your cabins - I wish you would get a fee for everyone who lives in them!

Maybe there is no work at the moment, or for most of 2013.

Can you get the necessities you need to keep living?

I don't know what help Pennsylvania provides.

But I feel you are in a situation that many, many others will follow you into. If that will help you, who knows.
I can't offer much here except our prayers and the advice to cut expenses to the bare minimum, which you have probably already done.

poster who says don't blame obamma for what he inherited - if he can't fix it by now, he never should have run for office again.
He is a dipshit who prefers golf to problem-solving.

Can you hunt for food, just asking.

Re: Where's all the work, Mr. President??? (need prayers)
WE are doing okay with food so far.

this is what we need:

lots of Prayers!

Work, any type of construction work in the southern pa area. If anyone knows of anyone that needs this please let me know.

If we lose our home and have to move this is what will suffer:

Husband's aunt who lives in our basement will have no where to go

My old horse who is 25 no one wants him, he will go to auction and die a horrible death at the slaughter house...

My chickens will lose their home and no more fresh eggs...

we don't know if we can qualify for another smaller farmette as in mortgage because we just got released from bankruptcy

so we are desperate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sad

Oh yeah to top EVERYTHING off, something is wrong with our 1999 suv, and the heater core is leaking in my 88 daytona. Don't know how the heck we are going to get that fixed, guess we will have to borrow more money from MIL (if she will give it to us hubby already borrowed a lot from her)

and to be told we can't afford to live here.....
what the heck can you do when you have NO WHERE to go? Only thing you can do is FIGHT to stay where you are at....

Hi Laura, thanks for bumping this.

Well God certainly is working in mysterious ways. Prayers are being answered, in God's way. Something wonderful happened at the beginning of this year. No it doesn't have to do with work, or jobs, or money. I can't explain exactly right now. If things are going the way I think they will go, my life will be transformed for the better! I am praying it will!!!!!!!!

Count me in for praying.

Re: Where's all the work, Mr. President??? (need prayers)
This whole mess has been ongoing for nearly a hundred years now. The final chapter began in 1971 and has been playing out like watching a slow motion train wreck.

Everything is debt. People's savings have been wiped out and replaced with debt balances. People's retirement savings are playing the highly dangerous paper ponzi scheme known as the markets. Gov So So security is a joke.

Until we have a complete reorganization things are going to continue to deteriorate. Labor must be paid in debt free money. Risk must be rewarded when warranted or allowed to fail if insolvent. Business must be allowed to innovate and be free of stupid regs.

The bad debt must be purged in order to start a new.
