To be honest OP, I would rather help raise 255. to spare this lady from going to payday loans.

Not fun to constantly be short-sheeted, or even to receive a gift to remind a person how desperate life is.

I do think a link to an email & to receive more relief from worry is a lot more helpful. :D

Re: Who's not Having Christmas Dinner this year? Financially Strapped.
I nominate my dear friend in the Philippines. He has a serious kidney problem and has slowly made progress. I have been over there several times to see him. He struggles, making ice candy and baskets to live. He worked for a politician as an accountant and the politician tried to get him to do illegal stuff involving gambling and drugs, so my friend quit. The politician had him beat nearly to death, and this ruined my friends ability to work in his field. I have been helping him, he tries to use as little as possible from me to get by. His mom is near death and he has a disfunctional family. A dinner like this would be like heaven for him and his beautiful dog. I bought him the dog, and that plus me on skype will probably be all he has for fellowship to celebrate christmas.

I am a Chrisitian and I donate monthly to charity, I donated several Thanksgiving dinners this year, several toys to charity in addition to being a foster parent...and I am offended by your put your money where your mouth is to Chrtisian comment.

Oh and I adopted an addicted black baby...what else do you do???!!!!
 Quoting: kaz

OP wont engage you but I will. How much do you get every month from the state for those Foster kids huh? And the addicted black baby would be a needy child so theres money to be made there too! A few toys? WOOP! What have you done for free to make a difference cause all I see is someone who has lined their pockets with money and then wants to say they are some good Christian! I have relatives who did foster care and adoptions they were far from christians and they did it for money and to say HEY LOOK here what we're doing..and they get paid well. SOOOOOOOOOOOO. OP gets nothing from this so go put your money you made from the state where your mouth is.

That is awful. Really awful. I wish I could help in the Phillipines, but the company I'm working with ships only to USA. I really wish I could help. But, there are some generous people coming on board. We can see what we can do. Hang in there with me.

This is a very nice offer. However we discussed Christmas dinner this year and decided we just wanted something simple like spinach quiche and salad. Light the candles, add a little wine - maybe eggnog and voila.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

A lot of churches are hurting/strapped because of so many of their members needing help, but only having a finite number of funds to help with.

Ok ... I'm off to do dinner and such.

Be well everyone.

Re: Who's not Having Christmas Dinner this year? Financially Strapped.
I have a person OP but I dont want to exploit this online.

Cancer victim, victim's usual job is helping those who are ill/elderly.

The persons parents are ill right now and usually would provide this for them but they are elderly and ill at this time. I dont think they can even help their family member right now due to being sick and the person/cancer victim had surgery this week. I am going to help out some but I cannot provide their meal-I know they do try to have yearly, this year not so sure. They all attend church every week if they are physically able to, one parent is blind.

They are some of the most decent people around actually but hard times fall upon all of us at times. If interested I will send you info somehow, let me know.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28952062

You exactly described someone's situation here at my church also! Right down to every detail. Wow.

Just goes to show how many folks across the US are in trouble. And no - let's not start political bashing et al in this thread. =P
 Quoting: OnTheFence

Pardon me for asking, but aren't churches also hubs for helping out their community members?

I don't get it, unless people are 10 miles out from nearest town, every community I've ever known is a veritable beehive of willing helpers who are glad to do so.

What happened to local helping your neighbor and local organizations which are everywhere..I don't understand some of these stories. If the need is so miniscule especially.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16213681

Some people aren't comfortable going to churches. And it would be so much nicer for some to just stay home that day and enjoy the family and a nice meal, without having to ask neighbors for help. And there are many places in America today where the neighbors aren't so caring. Sad but true.

I just stopped back in to say how BEAUTIFUL this thread is becoming! Aside from the few spoilers, the real meaning of the holiday is being demonstrated here. It does my heart good to see so many people stepping up to the plate to take a swing at the monster of separation. I don't see a bunch of lofty "haves" feeding the poor dejected "have nots", i see humanity at it's finest! joining together to make the best out a less than perfect situation. Big heartfelt HUGS all around! grouphuggrouphug

How black is the baby? I'm curious how Christian you really are.

Really black or a just sort of black?
 Quoting: Night_Prowler

People that are offended, have their self importance to blame for that. That's what Ive heard anyway. Does that offend you also? That's what i thought.
 Quoting: Axslinger

I wasn't offended. I just wondered why this amazing Christian felt the need to point out their charitable work and the fact that the bay was black.

BTW I'm a Christian not that I feel the need to tell anyone and I really respect what Pokerface is doing.

I'm ordering three of the dinners. I'm waiting for confirmation on the others that indicated a need. So, I'm not going to ask anyone for anything until then.

The product ships free and is a set price. It's on the website. Thanks again to everyone and their generous offerings.

I'll keep updating.

What an awesome idea OP!!

Do you know the poster Miggy? I'm sure she and her friends would love a turkey dinner.

Only problem is that she doesn't log in very often, so you might not be able to contact her in time.

At any rate, I'm sure it will be a blessing to someone in need.

God bless you.

Re: Who's not Having Christmas Dinner this year? Financially Strapped.
Jervis and V-Honey just donated $200.00.

You guys are awesome. I think I have everyone accounted for at this point and don't think I'll need more than that. Maybe one more meal is all.

There is the guy with a friend in the Phillipines that needs help. Left him an email to figure out what we can do.

At this point, I'm waiting for responses and ready to order.

Jervis and V-Honey, I'm amazed at your generous gift. I'll purchase directly from the pay pal account. Pay Pal is new for me. A learning curve. I know I will have everything together by tomorrow morning.

If I order by tomorrow morning, the dinners will ship by Dec. 21st. Ain't that a hoot?!

I've seen the name around. If you have a relationship with her, please contact her. I don't want to grow this thing too big. I think it would be better to put the brakes on now.

I don't want to have to say no to someone when the resources aren't available.

I truly care, but if you could contact her, I think we can work at it.

Christmas dinner is a moment to gather with family and enjoy all being together, and that´s what I like about it. It doesn´t have to be an expensive dinner or have gifts.
