Violent Video Games: More Playing Time Equals More Aggression

Dec. 10, 2012 — A new study provides the first experimental evidence that the negative effects of playing violent video games can accumulate over time.

Researchers found that people who played a violent video game for three consecutive days showed increases in aggressive behavior and hostile expectations each day they played. Meanwhile, those who played nonviolent games showed no meaningful changes in aggression or hostile expectations over that period.

Although other experimental studies have shown that a single session of playing a violent video game increased short-term aggression, this is the first to show longer-term effects, said Brad Bushman, co-author of the study and professor of communication and psychology at Ohio State University.

"It's important to know the long-term causal effects of violent video games, because so many young people regularly play these games," Bushman said.

Certainly, does not take a genius to figure that one. Eventually the little cowards can work for the military operating drones that kill the innocent people in this world. Parents, wake up!

Re: Violent Video Games: More Playing Time Equals More Aggression
I have always thought that all the violence in video games 'normalizes' violence in society.
Not that everyone who plays is going to go out and murder.
But violence becomes less shocking.
We definitely have seen more and more violence in porn over the years.
There again, men are becoming de-sensitized to it and think sex and violence go hand in hand. (Or more accurately, cock in hand.:)

society is extremely sensitized though. they are merely programmed to know the violence or action is fake.

for many many people, any sight or experience of actual carnage, grisly violence would leave them shocked and deeply disturbed.

This is a longer doc, but interesting and from the gamer's perspective. Very telling is a comment in the middle: "It's an escape from everyday reality."

And everything is hunky dory with that until those realities start to run together.

I don't know why people can't comprehend that there are young people out there who are spending most of their cognitive development time during crucial years of brain development enveloped in an alternate reality that is real enough to affect their heart rates, their blood pressure, their metabolism, their eating, sleeping, drinking and interaction habits.

One day somewhere, maybe in South Korea or Japan, where gaming is insane, a group of these gamers will decide to do a Team Play in real life. They would be perfectly conditioned to do it.

I don't know how people can say, "Yes, practicing the piano for thousands of hours will make you an excellent pianist because you will have strengthened your muscles and perfected your technique," but turn around and deny that someone who has spent thousands of hours practicing to commit homicide hasn't conditioned their brain into certain types of thinking or behavior.

LMAO! I find it funny all the videos people post as an example are staged. For instance, the German one was done for a school project. Idiots...
