Re: Society is falling apart. Can you feel it?
Things are bad all over. And if you step back and look at the bigger picture, decay is the way of the world, the entire universe. Everything is decaying all of the time.

In the bigger picture. It really isn't a big deal. Time is an illusion afterall. For instance, a distant observer of our earth, depending on their viewpoint, would see the earth as it will be in the future. Which means that from their perspective your lifetime has already passed long ago. This observation is happening now. So you may ask, "If this is true, then what about freewill and choice?" That would be an excellent question to ask. And the answer is this, "The hell if I know". It could be that even the notion of freewill and choice is also an illusion. That is a very real possibility, and by "possibility" I mean "Most certainly likely to be true". I know this isn't a popular idea, but science is science and science tends to be true. Of course, if you don't like this, you are free (or are you?) to choose a religion or something that mocks science and 500 years of physics and the work of generations of brilliant minds repeated and tested untold thousands of times. Sure, you can do that. Whatever floats your boat.

It really boils down to this. You are simply a bit sad, you are feeling depressed, and you think society is shit. I would offer advice about what to do, but there isn't really any point. Your choices and actions has already been played out before you even play into the illusion that you have made a decision.

Cheers.

I'm relatively young (23), and even I can feel the decay around me. It's like society and morality are just unraveling day by day, slowly but surely.

It's not just me either, but its my friends and family that feel the same way. America today is much different than it was 10 years ago, and not in a good way. What is happening?

Am I alone in this? Can you feel it?

Families are the core "systems" in a society. People want to blame the guns and the meds but what about the divorce rate and/or having two parents working full time jobs? Kids are on their own these days and its starting to show.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24209131

Try the meds they were on for awhile and see for yourself. The life-crippling side effects kids eventually might get have nothing to do with it? If only you knew how much the drugs turn people into monsters once they stop working.

Maybe if they let girls marry younger again and quit getting knocked up by young guys who are just partying and leave them on their own with a kid, and instead allow them to marry guys who actually have a chance to support them and stay with them? This new-age gender equality BS is part of the problem. They want equality but keep getting knocked up and left on their own.

Re: Society is falling apart. Can you feel it?

Yes, I agree with you, OP. Society is falling apart, and I can feel it, too, but there is much more going on than what meets the eye.

I am a 59-year-old man who has lived in New Zealand for the last 22 years. I have watched this country fall apart at the seams since arriving here. They used to call the place 'Godzone,' and the deluded amongst us still do (after "God's own place," a term coined by one of the original gold miners here in the 1800s); but anyone who calls New Zealand 'Godzone' today is off their face.

I used to work in the Auckland District Court as a stenographer, taking evidence live from morning until night, watching the crims marching in with their Legal Aid counsel and all the bro's and cuzzies and hangers-on and 'support people,' getting slaps on the wrist from the Judges, who are too frightened to hand down realistic sentences. I saw it day in, day out, for years. But that's not the reason I am writing this . . .

Listen. Please listen.

I have lived in this South Island town called Queenstown for the last 12 years, ever since coming down from Christchurch. It's a small touristy town, a bit like Aspen, Colorado. There is a 50-mile-long lake right here called Lake Wakatipu. It's pretty, but I've never liked it here. In fact, I detest the place. But that's another story, not the reason I am writing. The reason I am writing is this:

During the last two years I have noticed things in the night sky that defy logic. I will mention only one of them. There are too many to cover here.

About a year ago, around 11pm, in the winter, the sky was crystal clear. It was a cool night, no clouds, and I noticed no moon. To the west the sky was slightly reddish, but overall it was basically a black sky, studded with stars. The atmosphere here is very clear and you can see the spectacular Milky Way, unlike back home in Britain, where all you see is street lights surrounded by halos of pollution.

Anyway, I'm looking up there from the verandah, hot drink in hand, and I notice a star - far brighter than the rest. In fact, so bright it's ridiculous. Suddenly it's getting brighter and brighter, like a candle flame, blowing up, bigger and bigger - then ZAP. It disappears. No sign of anything. No sign that it was even there.

I saw this again, in a different part of the night sky, about a week ago. Same scenario - a star, far brighter than the rest. Gets bigger, fluffs up, like a candle flame getting bigger, to the point where surely it can't get any bigger, and then - ZAP. It collapses, disappears, with no sign that anything was even there.

I've seen other things in the night sky here (never in Britain) that would make your hair stand on end, but this 'star' thing is really bugging me.

I have a theory, but I won't voice it here because of the ridicule that goes on and the little ready-made pop-up stupidities that posters use, so I'll keep my mouth shut. I think it's better that way. I mean, what the hell do I know? I'm just a stupd 59-year-old man.

Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Society is falling apart. Can you feel it?
This thread is very negative but also full of quality and reason, so...

bump

My opinion: We have reached a point where everyone feels powerless and life itself feels meaningless. Everyone is mailing it in, "just doing their job", trying to keep going for the sake of keeping going.

Everyone is waiting for "something" to happen, be it war, be it the apocalypse, be it the second coming of Jesus to save us...whatever, it's always someone or something else and THAT is the actual root of the problem.

We need to realise that everything is within us, in every single one of us. A single person can change the whole world, it's up to YOU to choose LOVE and GOOD if you want to give your life a meaning.

When that knowledge and more important that FEELING takes over, that's when actual change for the better will happen.

To overcome the state of apathy, we need to do gain PASSION and COURAGE and overcome fear - by ourselves - no government or religion will do it for us.

Re: Society is falling apart. Can you feel it?
Yep, I can feel this also. There are like 7 billion peoples right now, and it seems odd to think that only 20 years or so ago we had only 3 billion mouths to feed...

The problem the human race faces in all reality is that if this does all fall apart..after the initial horror of starvation, disease, murder, and cannibalism that survivors would have to endure, we would NEVER be able to regain any of the present technology as there are simply not enough resorces left in the ground etc for such a society to reappear. It is easy for us to all imagine the romantic vision of the medieval or even stoneage society, but in all honesty would we really want to live in that way again?..What we have achieved is amazing, the science, technology, safety, communication with others of like minds such as on this forum....art, music. Humans are pretty cool really; if only we could just lose some of the unnecessary crap we are convinced we need, and ALOT of the abject greed.

This society could be amazing, and if we make it through the next few years we could achieve so much, if only we could learn to work together. And, sorry, stop trying to rely on some god or alien to save us. If that happens, great, but I can't see it personally. And its always good to take control yourself. We, as a race (humans, not any colour or whatever false separation we are convinced to believe in), need to take control now, before it is too late, and change so entirely and utterly..socialism, capitalism..theyre all the same!!. A form of control of the masses. Sorry guys, its up to us.

Everything is fucked because we can't handle modern lives. Our brains and bodies are meant for different, more traditional lifestyles. We were not meant to live the way we do, its crazy.

We are very "comfortable" in modern life but it is the comfort of animals at the zoo. The animals at the zoo have all their needs taken care of and do not have to fear and struggle like wild animals. But they are living a way that is very unnatural, and if you watch most of them you can see they have mental problems (pacing back and forth, endless scratching, or just staring off into space, etc.). We are like those animals now.

Yes and we just re-elected the one who destroyed it.

So sad.

All hope is gone now for America.

That's why you can feel it.

You are seeing society crumble into two classes; rich and poor.

So, people are uneasy and forlorn.

Unrest and increasing violence comes next, because all hope is gone.

You are not alone we have been falling apart since the nineties. Even if we don't break down and kill each other now by 2020 the world will be so broke and over populated that we won't even be able to feed ourselves let alone the needy. Everyone will be fighting over the scraps that are left.
There was a study done by MIT that said us as a whole have an expiration date of 2030 if we continue this path. Think of all the shit going on around you do you think we are the only ones that have noticed

I totally agree. I remember noticing the dark side of humanity increasing in power around the nineties too.

We have freewill. If we all throw in the towel, then how can there ever be positive change. Positive change can only
happen thru positive attitudes and actions. Each of us are
pebbles dropped into a pond. Energy radiates from us and
effects others around us. Do you want to be a positive or a
negative force.

Be Blessed that you sense that there is something wrong. In many countries where there is no Holy Spirit, people are living in squalor and sense nothing wrong with the situation. The Holy Spirit is convicting you now that there is something wrong. Get saved and water baptized and that uneasy feeling you have will swap over to the joy of knowing you have the righteousness of Godin Christ Jesus now that was exchanged on the cross when Jesus was crucified.
