I go threw there all the time (duck hunting)....no op ed piece should be predicated on what occurs in any small town (including Paragould) in Arkansas...most do not have police; or have a broken down police car in front of a one room city hall....Paragould? What? Three police officers there?

WTF.....and you know, considering the large number of fat fucks young and old in Arkansas, they should be ENCOURAGING more people to go outside and walk and exercise.

The state government is OK with this? The federal government? They're going to have some major lawsuits, and the city and taxpayers are going to pay through the nose. Very bizarre.

I can do one better. I work there.

I can tell you what's going on. There's been a huge drug problem on the east side of town and a recent influx of thugs and uptick in home invasions as a result. The final straw was when a 90 year old guy got killed in a burglary by two thugs about a month ago.

Some are going to argue that this is heavy-handed, but I think its a case where they're just trying to get a handle on the situation before its too late and it becomes like Blytheville.

I don't get the paper, but I read it on the Daily Press website a few days ago.

Paragould is NOT in the Ozarks...it is flatland...a farming community.

My mother was born and died in Paragould and I have many family members there....

It's my understanding Meth is a huge problem in the area..having said that and knowing the overall make up of the citizens....this will NEVER happen...and more to the point, this mayor and police chief will soon be out of their jobs...

I was wondering that myself...Marshall is typically a male name, in addition to there not being a Marshall Brady - but a Marsha Brady. I do recall the line of Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!; however, i don't recall her getting shot by a rogue SWAT team (but maybe that's the joke in the post that I'm not getting??).

Well, I'm no expert, but I did see that episode of Jesse's show and if that quaint little town is the same in question here then something is a little odd. Seemed from watching that the only criminals around were directly tied to whatever is going on there, how else can you explain the 1 bank to 11 citizens ratio.

I believe this is an attack aganist Kansas the law for any one Kindergarden and up to carry guns to school.

A few years ago in Texas our high school students were allowed to carry rifles in their trucks to school, in our town in 35 years + that I have lived here, never had a problem the law was changed, no longer are students allowed to carry guns to school. Teachers do, People in Texas carried guns to church until a few years ago, that has been changed. Why are they bringing in help from gov. in Kansas? If Kansas has a free carry law, why are the people not taking responsibly to take care of their own property? this is an noncriminal act. They are taking away state by state the right to bear arms. Wake up. We are fighting in Texas for our right to bear arms as it was before. Kansas should be to. Arizona is also holding out to continue to the right to bear arms. The United States is unique, we should never give the choice to bear arms up. It is a right, and only should it be taken away from violent criminals. Each State should review their laws and act accordingly. We the people have the right to bear arms, big gov should not be allowed to infringe on our rights. State by State should govern themselves.

Alright, report from on the ground. I just got home from a visit to Paragould, and the article is the truth. They were going to implement a soft form of marshal law starting in January 2013. 11:00pm to 5:00am marshal law. Were being the operative word here. Apparently the communities bitched about it so much that the town hall meeting for today, and one Thursday, have been cancelled. The police chief backtracked and said they weren't going to do it anymore. They are, however, still going to create a "street crimes unit", and outfit their police force with S.W.A.T. gear, which they will wear when responding to calls. They will then only make contact with individuals fitting descriptions of persons relating to whatever crime. The Mayor has apparently vanished on "vacation" after the community outcries, and they refuse to talk to anybody about the whole situation at the City Hall building.

I don't doubt they need some kind of help, though. That place is kind of a shit hole. No one was friendly except for two people who talked to me about what is going on while I was pumping gas. I feel sorry for the people living there, and sure as hell do NOT want to visit again.

Well, doesn't sound like it's quite martial law unless curfews are enforced and the police dept. is governing the town. Does sound pretty extreme for the size of the place.
