Then revise the bill and get it passed. What's the prob? They can choose. Then the parents can choose whether to allow their children to attend there or not.

Governor Snyder vetoes SB59; ensures that colleges continue to allow only criminals to be armed

It is with a heavy heart that we report that Governor Snyder vetoed SB59 earlier today. SB59 had previously passed the Michigan Senate by a 27-11 margin and the Michigan House by a margin of 68-41. SB59 would have allowed CPL-holders to take an additional 8 hours of training (for a total of 16 hours) and be granted an Enhanced CPL, which would have exempted the licensee from current ‘pistol free’ zones. We believe that Governor Snyder vetoed SB59 because he believes that taxpayer-funded public institutions, such as colleges and schools, should be allowed to determine whether or not law-abiding CPL-holders can exercise their rights on those public grounds.

Openly carried handguns will become more common at schools and other places if Gov. Rick Snyder vetoes a controversial concealed weapons bill, the spokesman for a gun-rights group predicts.

Steve Dulan, a director of the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners, believes it’s possible open carry could become more common. He hopes it is not necessary.

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder's popularity has plummeted since he made Michigan the 24th right-to-work state last week, according to a new poll conducted by a national firm released Tuesday.

A survey by North Carolina-based Public Policy Polling found Snyder's approval rating among likely voters is 38 percent while 56 percent disapprove of his performance as the state's chief executive.

Snyder's approval rating has plunged 28 percentage points since the weekend before the Nov. 6 election when PPP last surveyed, said Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling.

"Snyder is now one of the most unpopular governors in the country and it's a pretty traumatic reversal," Jensen said Tuesday.

Parents aren't informed enough to realize that CC means that those people have training to CC. Parents think that their children will be safe in a preschool, school church...ect if there are no guns allowed on/in the buildings. Totally opposite - it becomes a 'kill zone' for the criminal who has a gun not registarted to them....and no one to protect the innocent - oh cuz the law won't let law abiding citizens carry CW.

So, basically, he just in essence said that as far as he's concerned all school kids don't need protection from gun-wielding lunatics.

If they'd change the laws and let teachers conceal carry it would deter these types of incidents. SRO's aren't enough. Perps need to know that they don't know who's carrying and who isn't.

Yet, every time HE or his family go to those places, he has his armed security carrying concealed weapons!

More and more shootings with unregistared guns - its almost becoming a weekly thing now..... K-zoo and BC has been a go between for the drug runners to and from Shitcago for a long time already.

Yesterday in Grand Rapids a shooter killed a friend and girlfriend outside a resourse center for troubled people then shot himself. The shooter had a street gun NOT registered to him, go figure, thats usually the case in killings...so much for banning guns.

It was mentioned above but I'd like to explain a little further: Current Michigan law has gun free zones BUT CPL holders may OPEN carry in these areas. This law would have allowed concealed carry in these areas and outlawed open carry.

So we're back to open carry is legal in otherwise weapon free zones but only for CPL holders. Off limits for others. I think if I was a parent with a CPL I would be doing presence visits to my kids school.

The problem is he is a leftist as well.. he thinks someones wishes and feelings trump YOUR RIGHTS.

This shit has got to end.. the political spectrum in this country has shifted so far left that 30 years ago this fuckstick would have been a liberal democrat... today he is the "conservative".. and the liberals are yesterdays COMMUNISTS!

As a member of a GOP County Executive Committee in Michigan I plan to submit a very detailed statement against Govoner Snyders action. This is absolutely despicable and not acceptable.

Everyone needs to shut the fuck up about it.One action,by one person on one day should not change our rights!!!Especially when the whole damn this was made up!

Bottom line to me is that - hes creating/allowing 'Kill Zones' nothing more nothing less. As someone said above....the blood will be on his hands.

What is your feel for the MI state legislature? Could they override his veto or get a bill to him quickly that he would sign with the opt out provision he wants?
