How rare is a blizzard with lightning?

Not TOO rare. I've seen it before in white out conditions/snow squalls.

Proof:
I am originally from Canada.

we had a huge storm earlier in the year, huge lighting and enormous hail stones.

yes...I was driving home from work in that blizard about 11:30 last night...bustin drifts in the 4 wheel drive truck...and saw lightening...I was like REALLY?

I cann't even see the road and now lightening!!!

Uncommon.

We had thundersnow here in Chicago few years ago. 3-4 feet of snow. Pretty rare.

Thnder snow is rare, but not unheard of, I seen it one time a few years ago. It was snowing HUGE wet flakes and thundering and lightning like crazy!!! That's when our local news told us it was THUNDERSNOW, I thought that was a cool word....

One time we had lightening strike the tree next to our house in the dead of winter.

It wasn't snowing, calm winter day in January

THAT freaked me out, but there was all kinda other stuff going on there too.

I should write a book about it, but, I don't care, would just get shilled to death.

Not too uncommon and does happen. Now if you see a Tornado in a blizzard... that's something new ;)

Anyone ever seen it?

When I lived back where the snow falls from the sky as a kid, we would get about one lightening snow storm a winter.

Usually very little lightening comes with snow storms.

We had thunder snow last year (Lower South island NZ). Really freaky, almost whiteout blizzard conditions, the snow was like tiny balls of polystyrene and was being driven vertically by the wind accompanied by huge claps of thunder. Couldn't see the lightening for the storm.

I was at the airport in the departure lounge,watching through the huge windows It was amazing watching the storm roll in and hearing the thunder getting closer. At the height of the storm the departure lounge went very quiet as people watched in amzement (and dread at the thought that we might actually be boarded and fly in these conditions)- you couldn't even see the plane sitting at the gate. Eventually the airport was closed and several hundred pople had ot spend the night there cos the roads closed as well.

How the fuck is that proof? lol

You can't see past your own feet in a blizzard. Oddly enough in the Arctic the blowing snow is only a short distance off the ground as it is blowing snow rather than falling snow.

Location, location, location.

Get thunder snow about once a year here in SW Minnesota, especially early season blizzards.

Happening here right now. I have not seen it before but looking out the window I see flashes of lightening through the falling snow.

We occassionally have "snow thunder" here in Northern New York State, but rarely see the lightening when it happens. Just hear the thunder.

Living in the Rockies, it can be relatively "normal" in the spring, but also much less frequently in the fall. I've been hiking all day in the snow, to be chased off a mountain by lightning, not fun :)
