Westboro Baptist Church Petition: 250,000 Sign Up to Label Westboro a 'Hate Group'

The recent petition was sparked when one member from the Westboro group, Shirley Phelps-Roper, tweeted plans to protest a vigil for the Sandy Hook victims to "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgement."
The announcement disgusted hundreds of thousands who heard about it across the nation, and has sparked people to sign the petition to officially label Westboro a "hate group."

Its an atheist hate group masquerading as a 'christian' church.

Hunting people down for the sole purpose of harassing and taunting them isn't free speech. It's terrorism.

Where do you draw the line? I'd say when people swarm funerals with "thank god for dead babies" signs a line needs to be drawn.

I see you have Python as your sig ;-) excellent taste... however, some people were extremely offended by Life of Brian, would you not agree that freedom of speech means you cant please all of the people all of the time, somebody somewhere will always be offended b y something, once you start censoring peoples views you end up a dictatorship like North Korea.

Too many people have fought and died for the freedoms we all enjoy, you should not give up those freedoms so easily, especially over a few silly people who offend the majority, you should be thankful that in America today, people can get away with that level of offence without persecution by the state.

They acutely have a great scam and are partnered with a full time law firm they themselves own.

The church sues when they not allowed to “properly” protest and the cities have to pay the attorney fees.

You need to graduate law school.
It's a registered law firm.
They sue the public via local government, that's all they do for money, loot the taxpayer for responding to their provocations.

You didn't prove your point though, you're still under the impression that freedom of speech exists when in fact it doesn't. How else do you explain people getting arrested all of the time for something as simple as going off on an obscenity laced rant?
