Re: Why do Americans not travel ?
Because they are subconsciously afraid to see how other countries and people really are, and thus how their country really is.
They are afraid of giving up the idea that the US is the best and the only developed place on earth, and like to maintain all the clichés and funny opinions they have on other countries/people.
Thinking they're the superior humans only works as long as they haven't seen the truth.

Actually i have traveled quite a lot and America at it's worst, is better than any place else.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29307060

I guess everyone has his own opinion...

I have lived in the states for a number of years, dont like it, Europe is much better, more history, broader minds, much more culture, MUCH better woman..

America is virtually the same all over...Gas station, 711, Burger King, or McDonalds on every intersection from Florida to Washington state.

There are some things i like about the states, but the things i dont like far outweigh those that i do....sorry...

As strange as that might seem to you, the U.S. is big and varied in landscape. We travel regularly by car farther than the length of your entire country.

We can go from the high sierras to the sonoran desert in a day, and there's a lot to do and see in between.

If you have traveled here, you should understand this.

Australians can say the same thing and Aussies are the most traveled group of people i have ever met....poor excuse.

I would move back to Germany in a flat second. Ancestry floated over here at the turn of the 19th century and I am trying to find my way back home to the motherland.

Since I am an American and GWB decimated our worldwide image, I am afraid to travel due to the high level of contempt Europeans feel for us...

A friend of mine in the US went to Greece for a few months during Operation Desert Storm and had to fake a Scottish accent as to not be beaten up or killed.

I don't travel because if a TSA agent touched by dick I would grab him by the head and twist until his neck breaks and then gouge out his eyes while he dies.

Sadly, I think a lack of vacation time plays a big factor. Allot of Americans are lucky to get 2 to 3 weeks vaction in a year. How many vacation days does the average European individual get?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7155455

Exactly. I get 2 weeks and can't bank more than 4. When you look at how big the USA is and how spread out everyone's friends and families are, its pretty obvious why I can't leave the country whenever I feel like it. Add in weddings, funerals, reunions, vacation people have to take when their kids are home from school over the holidays, the fact that people are getting screwed out of their pensions, and the median income in the USA is a lot lower than people around the world realize.

This year alone, 850$ round trip ticket to San Diego plus hotel and food(funeral and wake), 600$ round trip to North Carolina plus hotel and food(family wedding), I can't remember how much for my trip to a friends wedding in Denver but it was a lot, I went to NYC to visit family and check out some museums and a Broadway show. Plus student loans and savings towards a college fund for the kids plus my private health insurance.

I did go to England and while trying to watch football be subjected to questions about "soccer" which I politely informed them was a name the British Isles gave the game a long time ago, a shortened version of association football. I also was able to inform said drunken Enlish the reason football has three codes, and shares its name with other codes called football, is because when it was invented any game played with a ball ON FOOT was called football. Hence the three venerable sports that share the name, and its not named football because you kick the ball with your foot. I like to educate ignorant cultures that don't get out too much.

Them: (After a rambling lecture on USA politics and sport) Herp derp, you should call it eggball, herp derp, you don't even use your foot! (They all smirk like an intelligent point was just made)

Me: (Condescendingly) You really should open up a book and get out more often, take some vacations to different cultures. (After all, when in Rome...)

I've decided to try South America next time because I have friends and family who will speak the language and know the locals. I've always wanted to go to continental Europe, but I've heard too many bad stories from people having their food spit on for being American, getting price gouged, and spending a mint just to travel around looking at old buildings and such things. Maybe East Asia some day when I'm retired, if I ever get to retire.

Just in my state I've been to the Burial mounds and several forts from old wars in southern Ohio, Amish country, German village in Columbus, old cities like Athens with beautiful brick buildings and streets, the Lake Erie isles and wine country, hiked the Wayne national Forest, I shop at the Cleveland west side market for international foods, checked out the orchestra and museums at University Circle, Football Hall of Fame in Canton, went to Blossom to catch everything from rock concerts to classical music.

Nationally, I've been to Pearl harbor, the barrier island in Carolina, I've been to Multnomah Falls in Oregon, Las Vegas, traveled up the California coast, seen the Lincoln Memorial and many other sites and museums in Washington DC, I've been to Gettysburg and Antietam, the Baseball Hall of fame in Cooperstown NY, seen the St. Louis arch, I walked among Mormons in Utah and saw the Great Salt lake, I've been to Pike's Peak and the Badlands and the Devil's tower, I've seen Niagra falls from both sides of the border. I don't think you tried too hard to explore America if all you know are gas stations, McDonalds, and Burger King. You should have spread your wings further, oh cultured one.

Re: Why do Americans not travel ?
Twas the night before Christmas, and in front of me;
My dog was balls deep in phennomemnen from GLP,
The night was quite boring, and as you could see,
I had nothing better to do than troll LoP

Three teenage A.C.'s all chained to my bed,
Two sucked my tits, while the last gave me head;
The handcuffs were chafing, their collars on tight,
I warmed up the cattle prod for a long night.

When a call from security disrupted my screwing;
An alarm had gone off, and some trouble was brewing.
I went to my monitor, scanned the estate.
The intruder was visible on camera eight.

A fat little midget, quite plump like a grape,
He'd obviously enjoyed the odd good anal rape.
The hookers and AC's would just have to wait,
While I did what I did to protect my estate.

When I got to my parlor I saw TRINITY there;
My bodyguards had him strapped down to a chair.
They had beat him severely, they couldn't avoid it.
And TRINITY they said, well he rather enjoyed it.
"I came for your help," he told me with a tear;
"You're the only one who can troll GLP this year."

"We are so much alike, I know that much is true;
Since you also spread joy; just as much as I do.
I give everyone bans and I like to get paid
Is it so much to ask that I want to get laid?"

"A blumpkin! a donkey punch! the GLP Mod steamer!
SHR's a post-op tranny, and she won't let me ream her!"
I sympathized with the dumb fuck this was true;
But there were some things (and some mods) that I just wouldn't do.

"I'll help the old dude" said a voice from behind me,
He looked over my shoulder and said, "Thank-you kindly!"
So, who would I thank for setting me free?
Why the mod phennomenen (from the site GLP)

TRINITY was thrilled and he did a quick dance
With a gleam in his eye and a tent in his pants.
He reached over his fat gut and gave her a grope
and said "You should donate to the GLP telescope"

Just give me more money, and give me a break
Cause it's quite clear by now that the whole thing was fake.
She dropped to her knees and she spit on her hand,
As she undid his belt something happened, unplanned.

At the touch of her fingers he moaned and he farted;
And TRINITY was finished before he had started.
And phennomenen was literally covered in goo;
Like a young blade of grass in the fresh morning dew.

But more like a birthday cake covered in frosting;
Poor TRINITY collapsed the whole thing quite exhausting.
phenn licked her full lips and she said, "it's quite chalky."
"It's lucky for you that I'm into bukkake."

Well, TRINITY got up and he brushed off his suit,
As she licked the last drops of his seed off his boot.
Then TRINITY said, "Sorry, I guess one thing's clear:
It's that paid membership should come more than one time a year."

well if i lived in britain, i would feel that way too.

i can get into my car and drive for three days without getting to the border of my country. on that trip i can find all kinds of various culture and scenery. why leave and suffer over inflated prices, bad food and tiny, uncomfortable hotel rooms when we have quite the opposite here?

i prefer my country to anyone else's, it really is as simple as that.

Re: Why do Americans not travel ?
Americans DO travel.

Unlike tiny countries in Europe where you can visit (not just drive through, but actually VISIT) 3 or 4 countries in a day....the US is gigantic. Look at the geography of America. It’s the third largest country in the world at 3,717,813 square miles. Two oceans are on either side, Canada above it and Mexico below it. England is only roughly the same size as Alabama, the 30th largest state. Germany is only about the size of Montana....

On top of all that consider that the Bahamas, US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and other popular Caribbean destinations that US citizens don’t need passports for. The next nearest countries Americans travel to that needed passports are Belize or Greenland.

Also, Americans tend to work more. Americans get about 13 days of vacation a year. British get around 28 and the French around 40. Fact is Americans get around quite a bit all things considered.

When you describe culture as meaningful based on age, then the game is rigged towards Europe. Of course the middle east is far older than Europe's greatest countries so obviously their culture is superior to Europe, correct? The USA has an amazing, rich history as well with a culture that has HELPED shape the world into what it is today, for good or bad. Traveling doesn't mean the same thing as exploring a culture. Just because you've been all over the USA doesn't mean you bothered to look around you.

And if you don't like the USA culture, that's fine and you are free to say so, but that is not the same thing as saying we have no culture. I didn't like the British culture for instance, but I didn't say they had NO CULTURE at all, now did I? It was too bitter and sarcastic and tribal and it didn't appeal to me, perhaps the same way USA culture affected you? Did you ever actually seek out what the states had to offer, or did you not enjoy it? These are two completely different things, but the second does not arrogantly deny the existence of culture.

Many that you believe are European, Asian, or African are Americans.

It is assured that you have met many Americans, but they are rarely on holiday when you have met them.

As a foil, many Americans have met a European, Asian, or African and assumed that they were Americans.

An excellent and efficient system of control.

Re: Why do Americans not travel ?

American "football" = Gay Rugby.....LOL!
 Quoting: LosTLocos

This statement is fascinating to me. It brings your dislike of USA culture into better focus and helps me understand your position better. American football is a huge part of our culture. So if you hate it then fantastic, just go ahead and say "American "football" = Gay Rugby, I can't stand it!"

However, if you were to say American football has no culture, you'd be factually incorrect as four generations of my "gay" family member who participated in the sport could explain to you. It was, literally, a hair raising experience for me to witness Script Ohio in Ohio Stadium when I saw Ohio State play Michigan. Just because you don't enjoy a part of someone's culture doesn't mean you can deny that it exists. I don't enjoy cricket, I don't say it's gay and has no cultural value because that would be ignorant.

I wish you'd just say "I don't like USA culture!" because then I wouldn't argue your against your OPINION. When you say the USA has no culture it just shows you don't understand what culture really is.

What's funny to me is all the talk of mankind's "great step forward into the Age of Aquarius."

The truth is, most people are so goddamned stupid I'm surprised they can step out of bed in the morning.

Example? The dumbass that created this thread.

Agreed. odd though is that I thought the Brits would be the most travelled. No matter where i've been in the world you can't sling a dead cat without hitting a British tourist but the Germans have them beat. America second with huge business travel and ever growing tourist travel. The travel industry tracks the numbers closely. AMR got it down to a science years ago to know everything about the American traveler.
