So as we've seen, people just love creating these petitions.
Now, its laughable to say that they'll really do anything but show the gubmint what people are disgruntled about, but if anything, they created a pretty glaring loophole with the "required signatures for the president to address the issue" portion. I'm under the impression that this is currently how it'll happen (as it just did with the 2nd Amendment petition).
1. Petition reaches 25,000 signatures needed.
2. POTUS/VPOTUS mentions the issue of the petition, WITHOUT EVER MENTIONING THE PETITON ITSELF (important part) in a statement or broadcast.
3. The petition has technically now been "addressed" and is then
deleted without any notification or mention.
From my observations, this is what I believe has happened to the 30k+ petition on the issue of violating the 2nd Amendment. It will obviously happen to other petitions soon enough.
Lets also examine that motto of the petitions website, so cleverly worded.
