Doodles lead to high schooler’s arrest

Police were called when a 16-year-old made no threats but drew what may or may not have been weapons in a notebook

This month in our Orwellian nightmares come true, a 16-year-old high schooler in Egg Harbor City, NJ, was arrested after doodling in his notebook what may have been either weapons or a magic hand with flames coming off it, or perhaps something else.

Concerned by the boy’s notebook, a Cedar Creek High School staff member called the local police, who searched the school and the teen’s home with sniffer dogs. When police found chemicals in the house which, when combined — although they were not combined and are found in many households — could be used in an explosive device as well as a number of electronics, the boy was charged with possession of a weapon, an explosive device, and was placed in Harborfields Detention Center before being released and having charges dropped.

The boy’s mother explained that her son, who had no history of violence or threat-making, regularly assembled and dissambled electronics as a hobby. “He takes the parts and he builds things with them,” she told Fox. “Good things.” And as the local police chief affirmed, “There was no indication he was making a bomb, or using a bomb or detonating a bomb,” and the boy didn’t issue any threats.

A 16-year-old student at Cedar Creek High School was taken into custody on Tuesday, Dec. 18 after Galloway Police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office discovered several ingredients that when mixed together could cause an explosion, police said Tuesday night.

...

Investigators from the Galloway Police Department were joined by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office at the student's home on the 300 block of East Spencer Lane, police said. They found several items, including electronic parts and chemicals that could cause an explosion when mixed together, police said.

The student was charged with possession of a weapon, which was an explosive device. The student was placed in Harbor Fields Juvenile Detention Facility in Egg Harbor City, police said.

The teacher was applauded for it...

The Superintendent, Dr. Steven Ciccariello put a phone message out to parents Wednesday morning.

“This is a perfect example of a teacher implementing her training. She saw drawings that appeared disturbing to her and alerted school officials,” he told Eyewitness News.

The New Jersey Education Association said teachers are now routinely trained to watch for these kinds of warning signs.

“Without the proper training, things can slip through the cracks,” said NJEA Spokesperson Kathy Coulibali, “If somebody feels insecure about whether or not is this really something that should be reported, we don’t want that kind of gray area.”

In another article about this, I saw this as well...

A 15-year-old girl was arrested at Mainland Regional High School and charged with false public alarm after she allegedly sent a text message to a friend stating that she had heard a rumor that there would be a shooting at the school on Friday.

I actually worry about this alot. My daughter is really into anime/manga and frequently draws swords and guns (quite well, may I add!). I have to tell her to be careful about what she is drawing at school and not to say anything (even in jest) that could be misconstrued as a threat. Its really crappy that I have to do this but I think we have to forewarn our kids now, lest they become criminals for emanating what they see through media everyday.

Ya know, back in the 80's we also brought nail clippers and small knives to school. Some kids even had Rambo style knives. I even had a qt of cheap whiskey in my locker.

Yup same here you missed off the half naked women with massive boobs (one of my mates was an expert on drawing them),if they saw half the stuff we drew we would all have been been arrested for a multitude of things ,but to me this sounds like a red herring ,something to make us think thank god for the extreme over the top reaction of the police and the snooping of the teacher this averted another catastrophe, whereas it has the opposite reaction with me ,they want an excuse too pry into the kids and that leads too the adults ,by the sounds of things the cops didn't stop at searching the kids room ,they also picked up a pile of normal household goods that can be purchased at any hardware store for cleaning and classified them as explosive materials ,this also sounds to me as if it could lead to all kinds of arrests of parents and kids for normal shopping and a reason to pry ,noone is safe from the extremities of the government and the NWO .
