With talks about an assault rifle ban coming in the New Year, people around the country are flocking to gun stores.
At the auction, the same style gun used in that shooting sold for $1,500.
"We can hardly keep guns on the shelves. We have a few of the AR's left and a few AK's but that seems to be the big movers right now," said gun store owner Bill Morgan.

Guns Out of Stock at Wal-Mart as Magazine Prices Surge on

With President Barack Obama endorsing sweeping gun restrictions in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, prices for handgun magazines are surging on EBay (EBAY) and semi-automatic rifles are sold out at many Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) locations.

Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, said yesterday that it would continue to sell guns, including rifles like the one used at Newtown, where 26 people were killed on Dec. 14. By contrast, Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. (DKS) suspended sales of similar guns at its more than 500 stores.

Gun Sales Soaring

Demand for assault rifles in the United States has increased tremendously as politicians’ knee-jerk reactions to the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School threaten Americans’ right to bear arms.

Last month, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announced that she will introduce legislation early in 2013 that will essentially criminalize millions of law-abiding American gun owners. Harsh provisions in her legislation and bills being drafted by other lawmakers have Americans in a mad dash to buy firearms, particularly those deemed “assault rifles.”

“Our phones are ringing every 10 seconds and people are saying, ‘Do you have any assault rifles?’” Dennis Pratte, owner of My Gun Factory in Falls Church, Va., told CNN Money. “They’ve sold out of just about every gun shop nationwide and just about every distributor is out of stock.”

…Smitty Smith works at Catawba Valley Tactical Supply in Newton. The store is waiting to receive its Federal Firearms License, so it does not currently sell firearms, but it does sell ammunition. When asked if he had seen an increase in ammunition sales over the past two weeks, Smith laughed and said it wasn’t a matter of an increase in sales, but rather a matter of a total wipeout of supply. “There’s no .223 ammo out there,” he said.

The latest battle over gun laws, however, is taking place not in Congress but in the courts, and revolves around fundamentally differing interpretations of the oddly punctuated, often-debated Second Amendment, which reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

The Supreme Court last looked at the Second Amendment nearly 70 years ago in United States v. Miller, a 1939 decision that suggested, without explicitly deciding, that the right should be understood in connection with service in a militia. The "collective rights'' interpretation of the amendment became the dominant one, and formed the basis for the many laws restricting firearm ownership passed in the decades since. But many conservatives, and in recent years even some liberal legal scholars, have argued in favor of an "individual rights'' interpretation that would severely limit government's ability to regulate gun ownership.

Local gun sales spike
Trend started after Obama’s re-election

Hardin County residents are locked and loaded.

Sales throughout the county show a dramatic increase in the number of firearms sold by sporting goods stores, pawn shops and gun stores.

Ron Timmer, manager of Kwick-Kash Pawn Shop on North Dixie Boulevard in Radcliff, said he has seen the national trend of a spike in firearms and ammunition sales reach Hardin County.

“You wouldn’t believe it, that’s how much it’s increased,” he said.

There was an increase in sales at Timmer’s store and other firearm providers after the re-election of President Barack Obama, but most of the sales came after the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

This situation reminds me of two old tomcats all bowed up face to face with every hair on their body standing strait up waiting on the other one to make a move.

umm I haven't heard of anyones guns being confiscated today so your thread is an epic fail. Trust me, this anti-gun legislation will not pass. And if they try to pass it by executive order gun folks definitely will not give them up. So this is one of those things which there is a lot of talk about but nothing will happen

I've been looking for 9mm target ammo so I could visit the range during the holidays. No luck in the N. TX Metro. This is crazy and hopefully things settle down soon.

Word of mouth is the Feds are holding up the distributors from shipping "assault" rifles. IDK where this ends but hopefully you're right about nothing happening. Many buyers seem to think otherwise and voting with their wallets.
