Senate-Passed Deal Means Higher Tax on 77% of Households
The budget deal passed by the U.S. Senate today would raise taxes on 77.1 percent of U.S. households, mostly because of the expiration of a payroll tax cut, according to preliminary estimates from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center in Washington.

More than 80 percent of households with incomes between $50,000 and $200,000 would pay higher taxes. Among the households facing higher taxes, the average increase would be $1,635, the policy center said. A 2 percent payroll tax cut, enacted during the economic slowdown, is being allowed to expire as of yesterday.

Re: Senate-Passed Deal Means Higher Tax on 77% of Households
well, if it wasn't clear before then it should be clear now that the Government wants to destroy the U.S. Passing massive tax increases in the middle of the worst depression ever is suicidal and they know it and press on with no conscience as to who they are destroying. They are probably having orgasms right now as we speak.

Their dog and pony show worked perfectly. why you would even think the Democrats and Republicans had some disagreements which is as far from the truth as you can get. They both want to rob the american people and once again they got exactly what they wanted. They knew this would be the outcome long ago and just had to put on a show for us.

I agree that extending unemployment is a bad idea, i feel that most likely the people who are still on unemployment are the chronically unemployed anyway, the ones who game the system. Kick 'em off now!

The payroll tax reduction for the FICA tax should never have been done in the first place. Social Security needs to be raised past the limits of salary on the highest earners IMO. The cutoff is too low.

Social Security is already being bled dry as boomers retire at a faster clip each year. Less is being paid in as more workers are laid off or are having their hours reduced. More is being paid out as boomers get laid off, can't find new jobs due to age, so are forced to go on Social Sec. several years sooner than they'd planned.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

What part of this economy being shit do you not understand?

There are NOT ENOUGH JOBS AVAILABLE for all of the unemployed, whether on UI or not, to fill.

Period.

End of story.

You are living in a fantasy land if you think this is about lazy moochers gaming the system.

THERE ARE NO JOBS. IT IS A MIRAGE. Gumbint benes are the only thing keeping us from a total FREE FALL and complete civil breakdown.

They are taking the easy way out by sitting on their ass at home just because they reached a magic age. I know several boomers that quit their jobs right when they turned the magic number and now all the they do is sit at home and bitch about being broke. Hello. SS was not meant to be a retirement fund. If you can't afford to live off SS then get off your able bodied lazy ass and get another job. These idiots want to run to the casino everyday rather than work but SS does not afford them the luxury of gambling like they want so they pout and demand more money from the dole. And yes, SS is the dole since the money these assholes paid in is long gone. They are sucking off the money I paid in.

And for the record, I am an American. I just happen to be in Italy at the moment.

We here in Canada pay higher taxes than you and we are all doing good. There will always be struggling families until they learn to curtail their spending on shit that has no importance.

People spend more money on entertainment then they do on groceries. Renting movies. Going out. Pay per view. Alcohol. Drugs. Thats why families are so fucked these days. They think sitting in front of the TV and getting all the channels is family time.

What happened to good old card games and board games. People could do more with less and it would be good for them.

You people are out of control when it comes to being hard done by.

Look around the rest of the World. You all have no idea what hardship is.

The 2% tax means a person earning $50,000 will have an additional $40 taken out biweekly.

The snowball effect of that hit on restaurants and retail will be devastating to an already fragile economy.

Look for unemployment to climb higher and higher, which means fewer tax revenues for the government, ie, increased debt.
