This might help you understand why California is in the mess it is in. I live in Cali and I have been contemplating a move as well. It wasn't like this 4 or 5 years ago...but now?
It has become so unbelievably socialistic (bordering on Communist) that some people are fed up with the nonsense that government legislature imposes. No one can survive here anymore. The two biggest contributor city to this madness is L.A., and they call themselves activists. That should give you a clearer picture. They think that strangling businesses by these measures will convince them to stay. Not on your life. Basically, they have dug their own grave if more prominent companies decide to exit to greener pastures. These two links should give you an understanding of how frightening things have become.
