The problem here is not eating meat per se, but the quality of the meat we digest nowadays( lifestyle the meat has, the way they kill it), its all energy.

Re: Dangerous & Unhealthy! The Vegan Diet
A buddy of mine was a hippie Vegan, lived the whole lifestyle and whatever he was doing it damn near killed him. Finally went to the doctor who said look, you are going to have to eat some chicken or beef my friend.

Again I can't speak for what he was eating, he just moved from the midwest to NoCal where he could be amongst his people and kept it up for 15 years or so, but finally gave in, very sick.

Re: Dangerous & Unhealthy! The Vegan Diet

Some adapt well to a vegan diet. I do feel better after switching to fruits, vegetables and nuts. My entire family hunts and I used to love wild game. I am sure I would still love it but I felt it was time to stop eating the meats because of health issues.

There is a great number of professional athletes that are vegan or vegetarian. I feel some have a calling to stop eating meats since the numbers have grown over the past decade. Their bodies may not do well while eating meats while others feel fine. One thing I have noticed is how much cheaper it is to cut out meat, sugar, soda, and processed food. That could also be a reason some adapt a new lifestyle. Junk food is far worse than meat, vegetarians cut both out so meat may not be the problem as long as it was straight off the farm or wild. I may go back to meat if my body tells me.

Peace

Re: Dangerous & Unhealthy! The Vegan Diet
I know healthy vegans as well as I know unhealthy vegans.
I know healthy meat-eaters as well as I know unhealthy meat-eaters.

It's how you do it, that matters, not the diet.

If you eat a balanced vegan diet, probably considering supplements, then it's most likely very healthy.

If you eat a balanced homegrown omnivorous organic diet, then it's probably also rather healthy.

If you eat an American-style fast food rich omnivoruos diet, then it's rather unhealthy, but a Mediterranean style diet is much more healthy. Simple removing meat from a conventional diet and replacing it with tofu is not a healthy diet.

Like I said, it's how you eat, and what you eat that makes the difference. Not so much the diet itself.

Different diets have different advantages and disadvantages. Not eating meat is better for things like heart disease, but including seafood in a diet is good for your tooth. Refraining from carbs is good for diabetes, but eating much protein is harmful for your kindneys and other organs.

Eating plenty of vegetables, no matter the diet, is generally a good addition. Drinking milk is generally not very much of benefit healthy, regardless of your diet, but it helps otherwise vegans to keep up with their B12.

Common on guys, let's not be biased. This thread is rather childish.

Eat what you want, be informed in what you do, listen to your bodily needs, and let other people in peace, either you are a Paleo, meat-lover, a raw vegan or whatever.

Re: Dangerous & Unhealthy! The Vegan Diet
So just for optimal health, I would do something like this:

- For a meat-lover, I would cut meat to just a few times a week, and eat instead more fish, and trying go more organic and free range.
- For a vegan, I would pay attention to eating a very diversified diet ensuring that you ingest every mineral and vitamin necessary, I would take blood tests regularly and take supplements (like B12) if needed. Take plenty sunshine for vitamin D.
- for most people, I would definitively avoid processed food, fast food, less stress, more outdoors, more organic, and try eating more fresh vegs and fruits, and screen health at regular periods.
- If I would have a strong ideology, be what it is, I would keep it to myself instead of preaching it around. Unless I would be like 40 years in that diet, and totally confident of what needs to be done, and mistakes to be avoid. Like a 40 years of experience Paleo, meat-lover, rawist, vegetarian or vegan.
