FAA orders all US-based airlines to ground Boeing 787 Dreamliners
FAA orders all US-based airlines to ground Boeing 787 Dreamliners - statement via @NBCNews, @Reuters

Carriers are showing problems with fires. Terrible blow for blowing to the 787 reputation, short term prospects for Boeing look negative.

As a result of an in-flight, Boeing 787 battery incident earlier today in Japan, the FAA will issue an emergency airworthiness directive (AD) to address a potential battery fire risk in the 787 and require operators to temporarily cease operations. Before further flight, operators of U.S.-registered, Boeing 787 aircraft must demonstrate to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that the batteries are safe and in compliance.

Boeing doesn't need to EVER copy Airbus

BTW: When Airbus rolled out the A380, it had probs. with cracks in the wings. The damn WINGS. But you don't hear about that anymore.

This will get fixed. Obviously the batteries or charge controllers are defective. Imagine if out of a hundred laptops, several caught fire within months. There would be a recall.
Personally I think lithium batteries in a plane made of plastic is a big mistake. AGM batteries are heavier but much safer.
