Kim Dotcom's New MEGA Encrypted Cloud Storage: See No Evil, Store No Evil |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 17090286 United States 01/19/2013 10:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Kim Dotcom's New MEGA Encrypted Cloud Storage: See No Evil, Store No Evil Dotcom is clever and MEGA is designed both to compete with cloud storage giants like Dropbox, Google Drive, and RapidShare—and also to insulate itself from future charges. The difference that makes a difference is that all files are encrypted using a 2048-bit RSA key. (See a detailed writeup on Ars Technica for more details.) What this means effectively is that Dotcom cannot be accused of knowingly storing copyrighted materials because he cannot technically know the content of the files stored on MEGA—only the user who uploaded the files and/or possesses the key can. An interesting question is; How do you know when you have "cracked" an encrypted message? For example, my message might be the hexadecimal string x"1B2F7F89". |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32570591 What I'm sayin' here is, the encrypted message might be any arbitrary series of binary 1's and 0's, not necessarily something recognisable as a human language. |

Eventually you'd run out of available addresses. But you can watch the traffic go back and forth. AS the key is attached to everything moving from point A to B and back again... You could passively monitor the traffic and look for recurring strings... (Via software of course) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32570591 Yea, but if you are able to crack the encryption, then you most likely would be able to read it. |
