Please Help Get This Petition Signed....Primatene Mist
For anyone who has been affected by the EPA's decision to ban the sale of Primatene Mist back in 2011......I'm humbly posting this petition for your consideration.

I've had bronchial asthma for about 21 years. For the past couple of decades I've relied very heavily on the use of Primatene Mist for TWO reasons. They are as follows.....

1.) Primatene Mist is VASTLY more affordable than prescription inhalers. To give you an idea.....my health insurance would not completely cover my asthma meds....the cost of a prescription inhaler was around $60 and the cost of the daily tablet I used to take for the prevention of attacks was also $60. The trip to the doc to get the prescription was $20, (co-pay).

OR - I could go to the store, buy a Primatene Mist inhaler for around $11.67 and a box of the tablets for $8.99....That's quite a savings for a family who struggles to get the light bill paid every month, as my family does. Primatene Mist has been a lifeline for me for many years - especially during the decade that I didn't have health insurance

2.) For me, Primatene Mist just works better than what the doc prescribes. I breathe much better using it. The prescription meds are much less effective for me. Also - Primatene products have never given me side effects. The prescription stuff is very harsh for me and - among other problems they cause, they tear up my stomach.

I don't imagine that I am alone in this. I know many people who don't have health insurance....who do have asthma or COPD, etc....

The EPA's decision to ban the sale of Primatene Mist, (while allowing the continued sale of other, prescription inhalers), is, to me, just another blow to people who have a genuine need and can't afford to get help any other way.

The EPA, apparrently, has forbidden the makers of Primatene Mist from selling off the rest of their product that is currently still sitting on their warehouse shelves.

The Makers of Primatene Mist have promised to donate the net proceeds of the sales to charity just to get the medicine off their shelves and back into the hands of people who really need it.

If this is something that you can relate to - or if you feel as I do, that people need to have options in treating their chronic illnesses, then I ask that you please read the petition and sign it.

Thanks for reading......

Why is the EPA banning it instead of the FDA?

They've been trying to ban the use of certain types of propellants for many years now. About 20 years ago, my pharmacist gave me my regular prescription inhaler that had been recently changed to be manufactured without propellants.

He instructed me that I had to "inhale forcibly" to get the medicine into my lungs, now that it no longer came with propellants. In other words, without the propellants in the canister, the person whose lungs can't take in any air, (during an attack), must somehow find the breath to force the medicine into the lungs, rather than rely on the propellant to get it into their lungs for them. Fancy that. And - at the time, since they were still making my inhaler WITH the propellants, I was able to raise enough of a racket to get them to make the original ones available to me.

When that stopped, I turned to Primatene.

For entertainment purposes only-

If you, say, go into shock from a bee sting, spider or are allergic to a food or medicine, Primatine mist is a must have. It can help while the Benedryl works. Handy to keep around.

I signed.

I have chronic asthmatic bronchitis, brought on by sinus allergies. Primatene worked wonderfully, and saved me (and the insurance company!) a LOT of money.

My only other alternatives are Advair (which I don't have) or Albuterol inhaler, which I do. The inhaler is about $165 without insurance.

For myself, nothing works quite as well as the Primatene, unfortunately. I know they've come out with the non-cfc version....but those are horribly expensive right now. And I haven't tried it yet.

Best of luck to you and thank you for giving this your attention! :)

Thank you so much.....I know this won't solve the existing financial troubles that people with chronic illness have....but it should at least free up some of the existing meds that are being withheld....and maybe some of us that have depended on Primatene in the past can snatch a few up for ourselves or our loved ones.

In the meantime, I'm hoping that the price comes down on the non-cfc version so that people who need it can get it without going to a doc.....

Last time I checked, the starter kit for it is at about $60.

I am still waiting for the doctors office to call back. I asked if he could have some of the inhalers that they get as free samples. The nurse told me they have a lot of them. My husband has not been treating his emphysema, just some of his other medical problems. Last night, when he was having a hard time breathing,I finally got him to take some of the "Clear Lungs Extra Strength" from the health food store, that I take daily.

My asthma has become very mild and is easily controlled by misting lavendar oil in the air and breathing it in.

Dried whole lavendar leaves huffed in a bag also clears up symptoms quickly. Get those at your local Whole Foods bulk aisle or follow a witch to her new-age culty store.

You may have already tried this....but you can go to the Pharma company's website and apply to get the meds for free.

Even if you don't meet the guidelines that are indicated on the website, you can still call the 800 number and ask what the guidelines are. They do change them sometimes.

For instance, there was a med I needed and I went to the website to see if I qualified to get it for free. According to the website, I didn't qualify, because I had insurance. But when I called the 800 number, the lady told me that they'd changed that rule and that I could go ahead and apply....

Good luck!
