Grandmothers try to enlist in military as statement against carnage in Iraq
COLONIE, New York - A small group of grandmothers protested at the U.S. military recruitment office in Colonie Center Tuesday afternoon after they were barred from entering the office to enlist as a statement against the Iraq War.

The dozen women, along with about 40 supporters, walked into the mall a few at a time and met in front of the second-floor recruitment office. When they arrived, they found the door locked and several mall security guards and Colonie police officers waiting for them. A few recruiting officers stared from behind the glass office door, but refused to come out.

Each of the women had brought typed statements explaining that they wanted to enlist to take the place of young people to keep them from being killed or maimed.

I heard that last month. I would have let them enlist. Probably would have shit their depends when they were handed tickets for a flight to Ft. Benning to begin infantry training.

Been there, done that. If the call goes out for busted up middle aged vets I'll be the first in line.

They sound braver than the so called vets that posthere off and on to promote the war.

No doubt these useless war promoters have never seen a single day of combat or would not be so unconcerned about human life.

I've known many real vets and they've all said the same thing. War makes good men into bad. They'd never go back knowing what they know now about war. The wars are always about power or money.

Unless someone was defending themselves or their family there is nothing noble about killing another. The only ones defending themselves and their families are the Iraqis.

We in the US haven't had to defend ourselves or others within our borders for almost 150 years now.

The good guy won that war, and horrible things were done to innocent people even so.

This war has no redeeming purpose whatsoever. It is intended to make rich, fat, old men richer.

Good post. And the real point. A member of my family is a 'raging granny' and I have NO doubt she would get on a plane to Iraq if she were allowed to.
Over the side and damn the barracuda
