They are talking about the Vesuv, to give american people an idea, the thing is basically the Yellowstone of Europe.

If this thing blows up big, all of Europe and parts of Russia, Africa and middle east will be covered in dust clouds for months. Casualties? Too many to count probably, a portion of Italy as we know it will be gone once this thing goes full throttle.

the phlegrean-fields are the supervolcano the article is about. vesuv is only a strato volcano which is a part of those fields.

That volcano has been dormant for the last 34,000 years and will still be dormant long after your bones have turned to dust.

Nononono, Vesuvio is another story.
Campi Flegrei is a bigger volcano/caldera.
Two different systems. they are very close but Campi Flegrei means the end of Italy.
Vesuvio erupted in 1946, and an eruption would be dangerous "only" for Naples and near city.

Not sure if it was in this article or another but they have documented increased activity in the whole area. Local authorities have raised alert level and are currently discussung evacuation plans. And in Italy, at leastr from my experience, local authorities actually getting to work means there must be some really serious shit going on.
