A woman visiting a third-world shithole by herself... not the brightest thing she could have done.

She saw Midnight Express and wanted to see how it would go for a woman in a similar situation?

This is terrible. May her family be blessed.

I was held hostage after being kidnapped on July 31 of 2012 in Ecuador. I escaped with my life after being sexually assaulted and my friend being beaten nearly to death. All were amazed that we were not killed by the group that held us since they nearly always kill their hostages.

I am a mother of 4 young children- who lost their father several years back. My pleaing to return to the kids may have saved my life. Unfortunately, it must not have helped her at all.

I would like to think that if that night would have gone differently and I would have been murdered, the comments on this page would have more kindness than accusations.

Sometimes in life we have to take a 'different' path than others in order to find our way. Who knows WHY she chose Turkey.

But, her death is no less horrifying- and her children no less damaged by her loss.

They shall all remain in my prayers.

For heavens sake, dont people read the warnings on the label of the turkey packaging?
WARNING: children and midgets should refrain from stuffing turkeys unless being supervised.

it's her own fault for crawling inside the turkey to stuff it.
Damn, I hope they found her before it went in the oven and not after.

I was touched by your story and surprised to hear Ecuador was not so safe as we've been thinking about relocating there. How did this happen? Were you in a city? How were you approached?

After reading your story I'm having second thoughts.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

Alexander- I don't know if you will read this or not. I was in Guayaquil- in a very expensive and 'exclusive' hotel. Of course, as the embassy pointed out- this is where the criminal element would look for victims. Supposed to be safer though, right?

Anyway, I got in a taxi- that was marked correctly- with the matching numbers and everything. The driver pulled to a red light and a man started to get out of the car in front of us. The taxi driver motioned and the man in the car pulled out some automatic gun, ran to the opposite door- jumped in and broke my friends nose with the butt of the rifle (all in 2 seconds flat). We were going fast before we even knew what was going on.

Ultimately, there were at least 6 men. There were 2 cars and a motorcycle. I speak Spanish fluently. They didn't believe I was American and DIDN'T target me because of that. In fact, I had to argue with them that I was American. They took the key to the room where my kids were and threatened me with that (although I knew the hotel had crazy security- there is always a worry that the staff is in on it). They discussed where they could 'keep me' hostage to give birth to a white son for them. wtf? After deciding that they couldn't come up with a place, they decided that they would kill us.

By this point, they had broken 4 of my friends ribs, sent shards of his glasses flying into his eyes (which he is still having problems with), broken his nose and cracked his knee cap. He is a big guy- with a big chest and I am amazed that they didn't do more harm the way they were beating him.

Anyway- we were in Ecuador all summer and loved AL of it (except this- LOL). Feel free to email me- my email is in my profile. I have learned a lot after tworking with the embassy about this case. I tend to ask a lot of questions and they have given some pretty good answers.

I am so grateful to be alive- they did shoot at us as we ran. but, we are here and alive and thankful.

Good grief that must have been one huge bird.
Who knew they were carnivores?

Har.

Seriously, this story from what I've read and seen
of the husband NYC transit worker sounds like the
usual made up out of whole cloth media story not
unlike my little snippet above.

Media can not be trusted.
