Chicago Won't Respond to 911 Calls

Chicago police STOP dispatching officers to 'non-threatening' 911 calls in the midst of crime and budget crisis

By BETH STEBNER, The Daily Mail

Victims of ‘non-threatening’ crimes such as burglaries, thefts, and simple assault in Chicago will no longer be visited by officers when they call 911.

Chicago police are now enforcing an austere new measure where officers are not dispatched to scenes where the offender has fled and where no one is in immediate danger.
The Windy City is in the middle of both a crime and budget crisis, with sprees of violence erupting, even as first responders are forced to drastically slash their budgets.

Re: Chicago Won't Respond to 911 Calls
The Chicago Tribune reports that officers of the Chicago Police Department will no longer be dispatched to handle less dangerous crimes. The measures went into effect on Sunday.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said that this dramatic shift would free up as many as 200 officers from compiling paperwork to being out on a beat.

McCarthy also said that unnecessary 911 calls – including reporting dogs barking and parents complaining their kids won’t eat their vegetables – are putting an unnecessary drain on the system.

He said that as it stands, Chicago officers respond to around 70 percent of 911 calls, as opposed to around 30 percent for other cities.

He said at a recent press conference: ‘I don’t mean to be flippant here, because I’ve been the victim of a burglary at least three or four times. I’d rather have the officer on the street, where he can prevent the shooting.’

The news comes as Chicago faces a violent crime epidemic, with nearly 50 homicides and 170 shootings already this year, and had 506 murders in 2012.

A link of Cops in NY just watching what happens and doing nothing.

WeAreChange recently got the opportunity to meet and Interview Joe Lozito, the selfless hero who put his life on the line to stop a serial killer. The story is only magnified when Joe finds out, that while being stabbed by the serial killer, the NYPD was standing by watching everything unfold from the safety of the conductors door. Currently in a legal suit, the NYPD and City of NY is arguing that the NYPD has NO duty to protect its own citizens.

The Chicago Police Department hopes to free up the equivalent of 44 officers a day by no longer dispatching cops for certain crimes, like burglaries and car thefts in which the offender is no longer at the scene and no one is in immediate danger.

Since when is a burglary, theft or assault "non-threatening"!?

This gives a huge green light to criminals! Why anyone would choose to live in this hell hole is beyond me.

I was living in West L.A. (great place, love it) and a guy tried to attack me with a sledgehammer(!) in my alley. Silly boy, didn't work. Then he opened his trunk and pulled out an AK with a 72 round drum (I think it was close to unloaded because the gun looked light in his hand) and pointed it at me. I kept trying to get closer to him to take it away and my ex-wife (love her too) called 911. He decided to take off. Two cops showed up in my garage 45 MINUTES LATER, of course completely in charge of everything.

I was building a cedar chest and covered in sawdust, tools around and on me and the one cop asked "what are YOU doing here?" I said "you're not going for detective, are you?". That didn't go over too well, but his friend laughed at him so he was stopped from what looked like hitting me. (I had a chisel hidden in my hand just in case). You just don't know who to trust anymore.

Lesson; Be aware that you're the only person you can count on to save your skin when you're in trouble.
